GM & HEAD COACH TRUDI LACEY SAYS...
(On closing seconds of the game) We had a couple of scenarios going into the last seconds, if they missed their free throw. We had a play set-up, unfortunately, the rebound went long. Washington did a fantastic job of getting back. We were unable to get a good look at the basket. I thought our team played with a lot of heart and character. We had some defensive lapses and fouled in crucial times when we needed stops.

(On a tale of two halves) At the end of the first half we missed some easy lay-ups. We had a lot of opportunities to get back into the game, although I never thought we really out of it at any one time. Washington pulled away at the end of the first half. Our goal coming into the second half was defense and to cut the lead. We did a much better job of rebounding in the second half, which helped our defense. I am really proud of the effort of my team tonight.

(On containing Mystics guards Alana Beard and Temeka Johnson) I think that is everyones game plan, certainly it was ours. I thought containing the two guards spoke words for our defensive effort. But, the Mystics got production and big plays from (Murriel) Page who came off the bench and had 10 points and Coco Miller also came off the bench and played well.

INSIDE THE LOCKER ROOM
HELEN DARLING (11 points, 7 assists)
(On first game in the starting lineup) This is an opportunity I have been waiting for. I just need to get to the point where my teammates can trust me. I need for my teammates to believe in me.

(On the second half full-court press) In the second half we just tried to change the pace of the game. We are a very good defensive team, but unfortunately they found ways around it towards the end.

TAMMY SUTTON-BROWN (4 points, 10 rebounds)
(On shutting down the Mystics backcourt) Our guards played great defense tonight. But we were just able to keep the pressure on them tonight.

(On individual rebounding performance)
Sometimes your shots just arent falling, so you have to help out other ways. I also like to focus on my defense and my rebounding and was able to show that tonight.

TANGELA SMITH (25 points, 8 rebounds)
(On individual performance tonight) I have to thank my teammates tonight. They were the ones who found me and got me in the position for the baskets.

(On Guard Dawn Staley being traded) Its very sad to lose someone like that. I just hope the best for her.
