Sting Reveals New Logo, Colors

The Charlotte Sting assumed a new look by revealing a re-designed logo and new team colors, it was announced by Ed Tapscott, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Charlotte Bobcats and the Charlotte Sting. In conjunction, the team also re-launched www.charlottesting.com.

This is the next step in our efforts to fully integrate the Sting and Bobcats organizations, said Tapscott. With our new coordinated look, we continue owner Bob Johnsons vision of synergy between our two teams.

The NBA announced on December 18, 2002 that Robert L. Johnson would be awarded ownership of both the Sting and Charlottes NBA expansion franchise. The NBAs 30th franchise introduced their Bobcats nickname, logo and colors on June 11, 2003.

The Stings new look draws on the color scheme of the Bobcats. A robust orange, referred to as Bobcats Orange, fills the familiar bee profile and is the primary color of the logo. A rich blue, referred to as Bobcats Blue, will compliment the orange and make up the word mark. Black and silver join Bobcats Orange and Bobcats Blue in making up the four colors of the teams new identity.

The Sting will introduce their new uniforms next spring prior to the start of the WNBAs eighth season. It will mark the first time in WNBA history that a team will wear orange jerseys on the road.

The Charlotte Sting begin their eighth season of WNBA competition in the spring of 2004 at the Charlotte Coliseum. The Sting will compete at the Coliseum during the 2005 season as well, before moving to Charlottes new Uptown Arena for the 2006 season.
