Nicky McCrimmon represented the Sparks at Bret Lynn Middle School in Torrance. She spoke on the importance of being drug free for their Red Ribbon Week. The kids enjoyed Nicky�s speech on basketball and growing up in Harlem and the challenges of remaining drug free. Nicky also raffled off some cool Sparks stuff.

The Sparks organization had a community booth at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Thousands of people came out to help support breast cancer research through the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The Sparks were proud to donate a prize of a autographed basketball and two season seats to a lucky winner.

The Back to Back World Champion Los Angeles Sparks went out into the community and participated in KTLA Kids Day LA. Point guard Nicky McCrimmon led a basketball skills clinic with 20 kids from the community. Nicky showed them how to be a champion on and off the court by giving instructions on basketball as well as talking to them about striving for success in classroom.

The Sparks spent time hosting an Academic and Basketball Skills Clinic in July. With the help from Fox Sports, the Sparks presented its 2nd annual clinic to kids in the community. The kids learned valuable skills in the classroom and on the court!

The Los Angeles Sparks take time out to read to a special group of kids at the Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Center in Long Beach. Rosalind Ross came out to the center to help bring smiles to many faces. Rosalind also did room visits to those too sick to come out. Rosalind read a special book to the kids and personally signed each one.

The Sparks hosted a Read to Achieve event last night at the Magic Johnson Theatre. Kids from LA's Best received a free book and a bag full of Sparks goodies! DeLisha Milton signed autographs to all 400 kids in attendance. After the meet and greet, the kids saw the movie "Like Mike" in a private viewing theatre.

2001 World Champion Los Angeles Sparks head out to the local Smart & Final to meet with fans on Saturday, June 22nd. Sophia Witherspoon and Tamecka Dixon represented the Sparks in the community and help raffle off two bikes donated by Smart & Final!

Rosalind Ross made one of her first community appearances last week at Crenshaw Christian Center. Rosalind spoke to the group on success in school and on the basketball court. Rosalind took time to meet with the kids and take a couple of photos.

A very special girl came to the Sparks practice and had a chance to meet the entire team! Nine year old Natalie Ortega is battling cancer and was so happy to meet Lisa Leslie and the rest of the Sparks crew at the STAPLES Center recently. Natalie's family saw the joy in her eyes as she shook hands with all the players and even walked away with a signed basketball!

The Los Angeles Sparks sent out two players to the Cinco de Mayo Celebration downtown. Thousands of people were on hand to enjoy the festive atmosphere and meet and greet with the LA Sparks! The Sparks promoted the WNBA Read To Achieve Program and encouraged all the kids in attendance to read. The Sparked helped them "spark" their imagination by providing over 200 books to distribute, both in English and Spanish.

The Los Angeles Sparks participated in the Festival of Books held at the UCLA campus. Nicky McCrimmon was on hand to read a story to the crowd and encourage them to read. Nicky also spent some time giving autographs and telling the kids about the importance of literacy and dedication to work hard.

The 2001 World Champion Los Angeles Sparks enjoy fun in the sun downtown LA at Pershing Square. The WNBA trophy was on hand to get the kids excited about the Sparks and the upcoming season. This was held in honor of national Take Your Daughter To Work Day. Many of the participants were at work with their parents and took a lunch break with the Sparks and the trophy!

KIIS FM has just produced their semi-truck for the summer and it is covered with Sparks! The Sparks players took it out on its inaugural trip to Cal State Long Beach, home of the Sparks pre-season game on May 11th. The fans came out to support the Sparks and to show their love for the new semi-truck!

Sparks players team up with the Lakers to show support of kids in the local community. LA's Best brought 300 kids to the Magic Johnson Theatre to enjoy an afternoon of autographs, face painting, photos and balloons! After the festivities, kids enjoyed the classic movie ET! Magic Johnson was on hand to support the kids in the community and to thank the Lakers and Sparks players for taking the time to invest in the kids from the community.

Sparks guard Nicky McCrimmon supports the Achievable Foundation as they host a 5K run in Culver City. The Achievable Foundation supports developmentally disabled people of greater Los Angeles. The Sparks were honored to be asked to join in and support such a worthy cause. A few celebrities came out to support the 5K run including Dustin Hoffman, Kathy Bates and Michael Nouri.

Mwadi Mabika went out to the City of Orange to talk to young kids involved in the basketball program. Mwadi helped hand out awards at the awards ceremony and talked with the crowd about playing basketball as a young girl in Africa.

WNBA 2001 MVP and Olympic Gold Medalists, Lisa Leslie motivated 50 middle school students to run in the LA Marathon. Lisa spoke to the kids on reaching goals and self discipline. After Lisa inspired the crowd, she lead the group in stretches so they could be properly prepared for the 26.2 mile run on March 3rd. With the help of Honda and Students Run LA, 2,000 students in Los Angeles will have the opportunity to run the LA Marathon and reach a goal they never thought possible!

Mwadi Mabika went to the USC Women's Basketball Game on Saturday to sign autographs for the kids. Many local schools brought kids out to the game to support the Trojan women and meet a world Champion LA Sparks Player. Mwadi was fortunate enough to meet and greet with over 500 kids and Sparks fans!

Sparks forward/guard Mwadi Mabika spoke to Cal Tech University students on Women in Sports. The event was held in support of National Women in Sports Day to commemorate the progress women have made in sports. Mwadi talked about the differences in her native country of Zaire to the USA when it comes to women and sports. The crowd enjoyed Mwadi's generosity and loyalty to the sport of basketball. The Director of the Women's Center on campus chose Mwadi to inspire the crowd to excel in academics as well as sports.

Shooting guard, Tamecka Dixon, shares her life experience with a group of 500 high school girls. Tamecka touched on good grades, a good work ethic and the desire to be a champion. The girls had a chance to meet and greet with the World Champion Sparks Player as she took time out of her morning to focus on Women in Sports in Orange County.

Mwadi Mabika took time this weekend to help instruct at a local basketball clinic for boys and girls. In addition to speaking to the group, Mwadi personally showed the kids the proper form and technique of the game.

The LA Sparks help out at the Union Rescue Mission for their annual Christmas Store. People line up and wait for hours to get in to pick up toys for their kids at Christmas. The Mission gets donations from various companies to help with the great need during the Holiday Season. The Sparks donated basketballs, t-shirts, hats and goodies. Mwadi Mabika joined in to help wrap gifts and entertain the kids!
