Hello, Sky Fans, its Elizabeth and this is the first installment of The Chicago Sky Girl Scout Night Blog! On July 9th the Chicago Sky is teaming up with the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana for one awesome basketball game of epic proportions! But before game day there is a ton of planning and organizing. Thats where my friends and I come in. Aaliyah, Joanne, Bri, and I with the help of staff from the Sky and staff from the Girl Scouts are the Girl Scout Night Planning Committee. We have been working with Sky staff to create the ultimate Girl Scout, basketball event!

Like I said before I am Elizabeth! I am going into 8th grade and I love to write! I jumped at the opportunity of working in the Sky office for multiple reasons;

1. I love being downtown and for some odd reason I love office-like stuff.
2. I am a basketball player. (Not to brag but my team is 91-0! That counts our seasons from 5-7th grade and all the tournaments we have been in)
3. Im a Girl Scout and it is always fun to do things that have to do with Girl Scouts because its a good experience and you get patches for doing stuff!
4. My mom works with Girl Scouts and she volunteered me!

I am an enthusiastic writer and I hope to get into graphic designing. I babysit and Im on the computer 24-7!

So enough about me, Im gonna talk about my day today at The Chicago Sky office, I arrived by train as does the typical Chicagoan on their commute to the downtown-loop area. I walked to the Sky office, which is easier said than done when wearing nice shoes, then I went up to the conference room to rendezvous with the rest of the committee. Once in the room I met the interns, Carter and Katie, who were very nice. I worked with Carter on the Twitter updates, which (believe it or not) is a new process to me. It turns out that either I am a pro at Twitter or I have beginners luck because I single handedly won the Twitter-off against Carter. I then made avatars or animations of the five All-Star players, Michelle Snow, Courtney Vandersloot, Sylvia Fowles, Epiphanny Prince, and Tamera Young, from http://lunaii-dollmaker.com/dollmaker/ (one of my personal favorite websites!) After that I started to write an e-news letter for the Girl Scouts. Afterwards, I looked up jobs on http://www.monster.com so that Bri could put together descriptions of how all the different jobs fit into careers for every single girl who will be attending the Girl Scout Night Game.

Our goal is not only to make game day run nice and smoothly for the Girl Scouts, Sky staff, and players alike, its also to let the girls know exactly what they are doing to help. You see the point of Girl Scout Night is not only to give back to the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana but its also like one big career day of sorts. Girl Scouts sign up to WORK! They do jobs like Birthday Cupcake Deliverer, PA Announcer, Photographers, Customer Service, Ball girls and many, many more things that are important to game day. So what we are doing for them is making information packets that tell them what to do, tell how to do it, gives them facts about the Sky, and also tells them how they helped (which is important and also little kids love to hear that) and how they can get a career in the field that they applied in.

We all have to do similar things here at the office to get ready for the big game. But a few of us will be taking our work home tonight. For instance I know that I will be finishing this blog up at home. We keep in touch mostly via e-mail considering that the four of us cant get down to the office every day. We will meet regularly until Girl Scout Night so keep a look out for the next blog. It will be coming at you soon.

Remember to buy tickets for the Chicago Sky game on July 9th! $5 of every ticket sold through the exclusive Girl Scout Offer will go back to Girls Scouts (enter promo code: GSCOUT). Every little bit counts and also follow your favorite players on Facebook and Twitter - @wnbachicagosky, which I now know how to use!!
