Christ the King Clinic

Coach Sides put the Christ of King Lady Gladiators Basketball team through a full WNBA Chicago Sky level practice. The girls ran offensive and defensive drills, as well as various fundamental drills involving passing, dribbling, and shooting. The Lady Gladiators were able to improve their defensive skills by learning how to guard a player depending on whether their opponent was a shooter or driver. Gatling and Clements stepped in to help develop the girls offensively by teaching them how to guard according to a players specialty.

Throughout the clinic the girls also learned what it takes to be a successful athlete on the court while showcasing true sportsmanship. Coach Sides emphasized the importance of team work and communication throughout all the drills by encouraging the Lady Gladiators to confidently use their voice throughout each play.

This is the second Chicago Sky basketball clinic Urban Partnership Bank has brought to the Chicagoland community this year ; showcasing a true commitment to inspire and uplift the young women of Chicago. The Chicago SKY/Christ the King basketball clinic provided an excellent platform for Urban Partnership Bank to bring community partners together to help make a difference for the students to learn different levels of friendly competition, leadership and motivation to be successful, stated Yvette Powe of Urban Partnership Bank. Utilizing our corporate partnership with the Chicago Sky to motivate the youth of the community and showcase positive role models is just one of the ways we own our mission to make a difference every day.

The clinic concluded with Sides, Gatling, and Clements coaching the Lady Gladiators as they participated in a scrimmage game against each other. The clinic participants were then able to have an autograph and Q&A session with Gatling and Clements as they discussed basketball and the opportunities it has given them. All clinic participants received gifts from the Chicago Sky and Urban Partnership Bank.

The Chicago Sky would like to thank Urban Partnership Bank for their support of Chicago youth and their willingness to provide them with opportunities to be involved in basketball.
