The Chicago Sky Signs Linda Frohlich
The Chicago Sky has signed 6-2 veteran forward Linda Frohlich to a training camp contract, Head Coach and General Manager Pokey Chatman announced today. Per team policy, terms of the contract are not disclosed.
Frohlich, 31, is considered the best women�s basketball player to ever come out of Germany. Originally selected by the Liberty in the second round (26th overall) of the 2002 WNBA Draft, she played two seasons in New York, one in Indiana, and one in Sacramento before moving to international basketball full time. .
While overseas, Frohlich has played for professional teams in Russia, Turkey, Slovakia, Romania, Spain, and now Greece. She joined Proteus of the Greek League in January 2011. In 11 games, she averaged 14.1 points and 11.5 rebounds in 32.5 minutes per game and was selected for the Greek League All-Star Game. .
"Linda's toughness, intelligence and experience have served her well throughout her career,� said Chatman. �She is fundamentally sound at the post position, with the ability to face up and hit the three. I'm looking forward to having her in camp." .
A native of Pforzheim, Germany, Frohlich attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, from 1998-2002. She is UNLV� all-time leading scorer (men's and women's), as well as the Lady Rebels' all-time leading rebounder. She also became the first Lady Rebel to record 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in career. Frohlich was named three-time Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and First Team Selection, AP All-America Third Team honoree, Kodak All-America Honorable Mention, and CoSIDA Academic First Team All-America Selection. .
