Ashley Robinson Profile
This success landed her a spot with the Lady Vols of the University of Tennesseeone of the nations premier womens basketball programswhere she was named to the SEC All-Freshmen team after her rookie season. A-Robas her teammates call herfinished her college career as strongly as she started it, claiming the 14th overall draft pick by the Phoenix Mercury in 2004. In the midst of all of her athletic achievements, she also earned a degree in public relations with an additional minor in business.
During her 2004 rookie season with the Mercury, Robinson started the year on the injured list but fought her way back onto the court, eventually ranking third in the WNBA in blocks per 40 minutes (3.1) and ninth in steals per 40 minutes (2.46).
After just two seasons with the Mercury, Robinson was drafted by the Sky in the 2005 expansion draft, where her height will give them a welcome advantage at the post position. The Sky expects Robinson to continue her WNBA success and make an immediate impact in their inaugural 2006 season.
Outside the arena, Robinson loves to readespecially books from Oprahs Book Clubwatch lots of TV, and do crossword puzzles. If anything is considered girly, I would probably like to do it, Robinson said, citing such interests as reading Glamour and Cosmo and shopping for shoes and purses, and eventuallywhen her basketball days are behind herbecoming a professional makeup artist. Robinson also loves many different kinds of music, spanning from rap and R and B to country. Im from Texas! she explains. Robinson has also had a life-long dedication to community service, and cites the Race for the Cure as her favorite cause.
When asked if theres anywhere she would choose to be other than on the basketball court, Robinson states that it would be somewhere hot, somewhere sunny and somewhere with a beach. Since this will be her first year living in Chicago, well just hope she remembers to bring a coat.
