Stacy Stephens, a 61 forward for the Detroit Shock, not only is a skilled WNBA basketball player but she is also quite the artist. Stephens admits that her love for drawing was established as she sat through lecture upon lecture in high school and college. However, she wants the reader to understand that she still was paying attention to the lectures because she is an excellent listener.

Stephens enjoys drawing cartoon characters and making random cartoons. However, she is unable to ever draw the same character twice, which does not allow her to complete a full comic strip. Stephens hopes to couple her smart-aleck nature with her funny cartoon characters to create simple cartoons that humor people. If Stephens were to create a comic strip she would hope to create something to the affect of Gary Larsons Far Side series. The demand for the twisted, irreverent genius of The Far Side has been insatiable and Stephens would love to create a take off of this masterpiece comic.

For more of a challenge, Stephens often turns to drawing portraits of people and scenery. However, she points out that drawing self-portraits and frozen images is tough and I give a lot of credit to real artists.

The hope is that in 10 years people will be buying a Stacy Stephens calendar filled with quirky one-liners accompanied by her patented cartoon characters that bring a laugh a minute!
