Danielles heroism is unmatched - she grew up on Chicagos Southside, has beaten unthinkable odds to play collegiate basketball at the highest level, spent significant time teaching the game to youth in her home town and continues to serve our country despite the challenges she has faced during her time in the service said Riley. Im proud and honored to call her a friend and looking forward to presenting this award to her.
Green graduated from Notre Dame in 1999 and finished her playing career in 2000 after averaging 9.5 points and 4.5 rebounds during her four years. She finished with 1,106 points (17th on the schools all-time list) and was instrumental in the advancement of the Fighting Irish to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen in 1998 and 2000. As a junior in 1998-99, she averaged a career-best 14.4 points and 7.2 rebounds. She was a member of the Fighting Irish NCAA Womens Final Four team in 1997, though she didnt play that season due to a torn Achilles tendon. Green then served as assistant girls basketball coach at Washington High School in her hometown of Chicago before becoming an assistant coach at Chicago State in 2002. She enlisted in the Army in 2003 and was sent to Iraq early in 2004 as a member of a military police unit based at Fort Lewis in the state of Washington.
