NNEKA TOPS TINA IN POLISH LEAGUE
2012 WNBA Rookie of the Year Nneka Ogwumike and her Polish club CCC Polkowice defeated 2012 WNBA Most Valuable Player Tina Charles and Wisla Can-Pak in a four-game sweep to win the PLKK (Polish Women's Professional League) Finals. Ogwumike's CCC Polkowice swept the seven-game series, 4-0, with the Los Angeles Sparks forward posting an 18-point, 15-rebound double-double in the decisive 78-65 Game 4 victory to complete the sweep.
Charles scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the losing effort for Wisla Can-Pak.
For Ogwumike and CCC Polkowice, the Finals sweep cemented the regular season domination of the club, which posted an impressive 23-1 record prior to the playoffs. Wisla Can-Pak went 19-5 for the season, good for third place, but managed to edge second place Artego Bydg (21-3) to reach the Finals.
Oguwmike, playing her first European season after completing her collegiate career at Stanford before joining the WNBA in 2012, was the league's leading scorer with 18.3 points per game. Charles had a 15.6 ppg average.
FROM RUSSIA, WITH BALL
Having previously secured European women's professional basketball supremacy by winning the prestigious EuroLeague Championship back in March, Candace Parker, Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird and Deanna Nolan have now led their Russian club UMMC Ekaterinburg to the Russian League title.

Taurasi then took center stage in UMMC's 89-92 OT Game 2 win, scoring a team-high 22 points and dishing out five assists, while Parker posted 16 points and 11 rebounds. Deanna Nolan, a three-time WNBA Champion with the Shock, whose WNBA rights were recently acquired by New York Liberty GM/Head Coach Bill Laimbeer, her former championship coach with the Shock, contributed 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Spartak Moscow was paced by Augustus, the Minnesota Lynx star, who led all scorers in Game 2 with 14 points, and Candice Dupree, Taurasi's Phoenix Mercury teammate, who combined for 26 points and 17 rebounds in the first two game of the best-of-series, which ended when UMMC completed the sweep with a 84-68 Game 3 victory. Parker scored 14 points in the clincher, while Taurasi and Seattle Storm point guard Sue Bird each chipped in with 10 points.
TALKING TURKEY
The domestic competition Finals in Turkey is a spirited affair, both locally and within WNBA circles. Historic, bitter rivals across all sports, including women's basketball, Instanbul-based clubs Galatasary and Fenerbahce are once again pitted against each other in the Finals.
For WNBA fans, the Galatasary-Fenerbahce matchup includes two Atlanta Dream teammates competing against each other: Fener's Angel McCoughtry and Gala's Sancho Lyttle.
Thus far, Fenerbahce and McCoughtry hold a 2-1 series edge over Lyttle and Galatasary after a 71-70 Fener victory on April 29. Another WNBA player, New York Liberty point guard Cappie Pondexter, led the way for Fenerbahce with a 19-point, three assist and two rebound Game 3 performance, while McCoughtry added seven points, three rebounds and two assists.
Lyttle posted 19 points and seven rebounds for Galatasary, while newly acquired Los Angeles Sparks guard Lindsey Harding had 12 points, six assists and five rebounds in the loss.
