Hanns-G ‘Go Beyond� Rookie of the Month

After leading all rookies in scoring with an average of 18.6 ppg, Candice Wiggins has been named the Rookie of the Month for June.

NEW YORK, July 9, 2008 - After leading all rookies with more than 18 points per game, Minnesota Lynx guard Candice Wiggins was named the Hanns-G 'Go Beyond' Rookie of the Month for June.

In 11 games, the 5'11" guard averaged 18.6 points, which topped all rookies, 3.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game. She recorded 20 or more points four times and scored in double-digits in each game, including a season-high 26 points against the New York Liberty in a 77-76 loss on June 14.

The third overall pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft, Wiggins has lived up to expectations following an All-American career at Stanford University and is currently a leading candidate for the league's Sixth Woman of the Year award. With her all-around play, Wiggins has helped guide the Lynx to a 9-9 record in the competitive Western Conference, including a 5-0 run start to the season. She currently ranks second among rookies and 14th in the league overall in scoring (17.1 ppg), leads her team in assists (3.5 apg) and sits tied for fifth in the league in steals (1.9 spg).

Below are the highlights of Wiggins' outstanding month:

  • June 3 vs. Atlanta: 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting in an 85-81 win.
  • June 8 vs. San Antonio: 17 points, 3 assists and 13-of-14 free-throws in a 90-78 victory.
  • June 14 vs. New York: Career-best 26 points in a 77-76 loss.
  • June 28 vs. San Antonio: Career-high 6 steals in a 73-65 loss.
