Chicago Sky's Sylvia Fowles and LA Sparks' Candace Parker Named WNBA Players of the Week

NEW YORK, July 15, 2013 � Sylvia Fowles of the Chicago Sky and Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks were named the WNBA�s Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, July 8 through Sunday, July 14.

Fowles averaged 20.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks over two games last week, both wins for the Sky. This marks her first Player of the Week award of the season, sixth of her career, and the third consecutive week a Chicago Sky player has taken the honor (Delle Donne 6/30 and 7/7).

On July 10, Fowles led Chicago to a narrow 89-85 win over Washington, recording game highs in points with 26 and rebounds with 18, including 10 on the offensive glass. She also shot 12-for-17 from the field in the win and earned her sixth double-double of the season. On July 12, Fowles scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds in Chicago�s 83-70 road win over Connecticut. Overall, her 11.8 rebounds per game lead the league this season and her 2.39 blocks per game rank second.

For Parker, who ranked first in the WNBA with 25.5 points per game last week, the Western Conference Player of the Week nod is her third of the season, second consecutive and the 13th of her career. She also led the West in field goal percentage (62 percent) and ranked third in the conference in rebounds per game (8.0). Parker, who also averaged 4.0 assists last week, led the Sparks to a 2-0 record, the team�s first two road wins of the season.

In a 94-78 win over Tulsa on July 11, Parker set a new season high in points with 30, pulled down eight rebounds and dished out three assists. Her 14 made field goals against the Shock also matched a WNBA season high.

On July 14, Parker grabbed another eight rebounds to go along with 21 points and five assists in an 88-76 victory in Phoenix.

Other candidates for WNBA Players of the Week were Atlanta�s Erika de Souza, Chicago�s Elena Delle Donne, Connecticut�s Tina Charles, Indiana�s Erlana Larkins and Washington�s Crystal Langhorne in the East, as well as Minnesota�s Lindsay Whalen and Tulsa�s Nicole Powell in the West.
