Los Angeles� Lisa Leslie Wins 2004 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year Presented by Tampax

NEW YORK, September 26 � The WNBA announced today that Los Angeles Sparks center Lisa Leslie won the 2004 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year Award presented by Tampax, receiving 27 of a possible 48 votes from a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

Leslie led the WNBA in blocked shots this season with 2.88 per game and currently ranks second on the WNBA�s all-time blocked shots list with 564. She also ranked first in the league in defensive rebounds per game (8.1) and 14th in steals per game (1.47). Leslie�s presence in the paint also helped the Sparks lead the WNBA in opponent�s field-goal percentage (38.9), as Los Angeles was the only team in the league to keep its opponents under 40.0 percent shooting from the field.

As the defensive player of the year, Leslie will receive a Tiffany-designed trophy and $5,000.
