Monarchs in the Off-season

Now that the 2009 WNBA season is complete, several Monarchs players will continue to play overseas. Here�s what they are up to this off-season:

Sacramento Monarchs forward Rebekkah Brunson played in one Italian league game and one FIBA Europe game last week for Cras Basket Taranto (Taranto, Italy), helping her team remain undefeated in league play (6-0) and improve to 2-2 in FIBA Europe. In her two games, Brunson tallied 41 points, 18 rebounds, one assist and one steal; overall, she is averaging 16.0 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals, 0.5 assists, 0.5 blocks and 28.3 minutes per game in 10 games this season (league and FIBA combined).

In one game last week Umana Reyer Venezia (Venice, Italy), Sacramento Monarchs forward/center Laura Harper recorded nine points, 10 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and one steal as her team fell to 4-2 this season. Harper is averaging 10.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 1.2 blocks, 1.0 assists and 22.3 minutes per game in six games.

In one game last week for Maccabi Ashdod (Ashdod, Israel), Sacramento Monarchs center Courtney Paris tallied 20 points and 11 rebounds � her fourth double-double of the season � to go along with two blocks. Paris is averaging 21.0 points, 16.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, 1.0 assists, 0.8 steals and 33.2 minutes in five games.

Monarchs guard Chelsea Newton helped Liomatic Umbertide (Umbertide, Italy) win their game last week by tallying 12 points, seven rebounds, four steals and one assist. This season, Newton is averaging 16.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 0.3 assists and 0.3 blocks in 35.5 minutes per game.

Sacramento Monarchs forward Nicole Powell played in two games for Fenerbah�e (Istanbul, Turkey) last week, one for the Turkey league and one for FIBA Europe. Powell helped her team remain undefeated in league play and to improve to 2-2 in FIBA Europe games by combining for 27 points, seven rebounds, three steals, three assists and one block. On the season, Powell is averaging 15.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.9 steals, 0.1 blocks and 29.5 minutes in eight games.

Last week, Sacramento Monarchs forward Rebekkah Brunson played in three games for Cras Basket Taranto (Taranto, Italy), one Italian league game and two FIBA Europe games. Overall, Brunson is averaging 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 2.5 assists and 30.0 minutes per game in six games this season (league and FIBA).

Sacramento Monarchs forward/center Laura Harper played in two games last week for Umana Reyer Venezia (Venice, Italy) and tallied 18 points, 18 rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist. She is averaging 10.0 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 0.8 assists, 0.8 blocks and 20.6 minutes per game in five games.

In two games last week for Maccabi Ashdod (Ashdod, Israel), Sacramento Monarchs center Courtney Paris recorded 44 points, 27 rebounds, six blocks, four assists and two steals. She is averaging 21.0 points, 17.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, 1.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 33.0 minutes in just four games.

Monarchs guard Chelsea Newton played in two games for Liomatic Umbertide (Umbertide, Italy) last week and recorded 16 points in both games. She added a total of six rebounds, four steals, one block and one assist; on the season, Newton is averaging 17.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 steals, 0.4 blocks and 0.2 assists in 35.0 minutes per game.

Sacramento Monarchs forward Nicole Powell played in three games for Fenerbah�e (Istanbul, Turkey) � one for the Turkey league and two for FIBA Europe � and logged 48 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, five steals and 91 minutes. This season, Powell is averaging 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 30.0 minutes in six games.

In her league game, Brunson tallied 16 points, seven rebounds and two steals; she recorded a team-high 17 points, seven rebounds, three steals, one assist and one block in the FIBA Europe game. Overall, Brunson is averaging 18.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.8 steals, 1.0 blocks and 0.5 assists in 28.3 minutes per game.

Sacramento Monarchs forward/center Laura Harper played in one game last week for Umana Reyer Venezia (Venice, Italy) and recorded 15 points, seven rebounds, three steals and one assist. She is averaging 11.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.0 assists and 0.7 blocks in 18.7 minutes per game.

In one game last week, Sacramento Monarchs center Courtney Paris recorded her second double-double of the season for Maccabi Ashdod (Ashdod, Israel) with 19 points and 19 rebounds; she shot 6-of-9 from the field, 1-of-1 from behind the three-point line and 4-of-6 from the charity stripe. Additionally, Paris tallied one steal and one assist.

Last week, Monarchs guard Chelsea Newton played in one game for Liomatic Umbertide (Umbertide, Italy) and tallied 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field and 2-of-3 shooting from the free throw line. Newton added three rebounds, one steal and one block.

Sacramento Monarchs forward Nicole Powell has played in two games this season for Fenerbah�e (Istanbul, Turkey), one for the Turkey league and one for FIBA Europe. In the Turkey league game, Powell recorded 13 points on 3-of-6 shooting from the field, 2-of-6 shooting from three-point range and 1-of-1 shooting from the free throw line to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and one steal. In the FIBA Europe game, she tallied 18 points on 3-of-4 made baskets from the field, 3-of-5 made three-pointers and 3-of-4 made free throws in addition to recording six rebounds, five steals and three assists.

In two games played � 56 minutes total � for Cras Basket Taranto (Taranto, Italy), Sacramento Monarchs forward Rebekkah Brunson has tallied 40 points on 18-of-24 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 shooting from the free throw line. Additionally, Brunson has recorded 19 rebounds, three blocks, two steals and one assist.

Sacramento Monarchs forward/center Laura Harper has played in two games for Umana Reyer Venezia (Venice, Italy) for a total of 41 minutes. Harper has made 6-of-16 field goal attempts and 6-of-8 free throw attempts to go along with 13 boards, three steals, two assists and two blocks.

Sacramento Monarchs center Courtney Paris helped Maccabi Ashdod (Ashdod, Israel) win the Winners Cup title by an 84-82 tally with her 16 points and 13 rebounds. Then, in her first game in Israeli league play, Paris recorded 21 points and 22 rebounds to along with two blocks and one steal.

Monarchs guard Chelsea Newton played in two games for Liomatic Umbertide (Umbertide, Italy) for a total of 70 minutes. In that time, Newton tallied 41 points on 12-of-24 shooting from the field, 1-of-2 shooting from beyond the arc and 14-of-16 shooting from the charity stripe. Additionally, she recorded 10 rebounds and nine steals.
