  • In March, the Monarchs Traded forward Tangela Smith and the Monarchs 2006 second draft round pick to Charlotte in exchange for guard/forward Nicole Powell, center Olympia Scott-Richardson and forward/guard Erin Buescher.

  • Selected guard Kristin Haynie (ninth overall), guard Chelsea Newton (22nd overall), guard Anne O�Neil (30th overall) and center Cisti Greenwalt (35th overall) in the 2005 WNBA Draft.

  • The Monarchs finished the regular season with a franchise-best 25-9 record, including 15-2 at home.

  • Yolanda Griffith was selected as a member of the All-WNBA First Team as well as the WNBA All-Defensive First team.

  • Finals MVP - Yolanda Griffith Monarchs guard Chelsea Newton was selected as a member of the WNBA All-Rookie Team.

  • Monarchs Head Coach John Whisenant was chosen as the WNBA Coach of the Year.

  • Nicole Powell was selected as the WNBA�s Most Improved Player.

  • The Monarchs won the 2005 WNBA Championship after defeating the Los Angeles Sparks 2-0 in the first round, the Houston Comets 2-0 in the Western Conference Finals and the Connecticut Sun 3-1 in the WNBA Finals.

  • Yolanda Griffith was chosen as the WNBA Finals MVP after averaging 17.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.3 blocks in eight playoff games played.
