Wiggins Receives Sixth Woman of the Year Trophy
Lynx star Candice Wiggins finally received her Tiffany's on Wednesday. WNBA Vice President of Player Personnel Rene Brown was on hand during the Wolves vs. Spurs game to present Wiggins with her trophy, a little over a month after it was first announced that she had won the award.
Wiggins came off the bench in 29 of the 30 games in which she played, helping propel the Lynx to 16 wins, the second-best total in team history and a six-game improvement on 2007. Wiggins scored 20 points or more seven times to eclipse Chamique Holdsclaws single-season WNBA mark for 20-point performances by a reserve (six in 2006). Those seven games were also the top seven single-game bench scoring totals in Lynx history.
Thanks in large part to her efforts, the Lynx set a WNBA record by receiving an average of 33.9 ppg from their reserves, bettering the previous mark of 33.4 ppg set by Sacramento in 2006. Individually, Wiggins tallied an average of 15.8 ppg in her 29 bench appearances, breaking Holdsclaws WNBA record of 15.0 ppg for Los Angeles in 2006.
