2005 in Review: Vickie Johnson
The 2005 season has come and gone. With Liberty players now spreading out across the globe, nyliberty.com will take a look back at the season that was. So join us for a year-in-review of your favorite players. This time: Vickie Johnson. Dependable was her middle name. VJ started in each of the 34 Liberty games in 2005. She was one of just three players to appear in every game, and one of only two to start every game this season. Hit double digits....yet again. VJ averaged double figures in scoring this season for the seventh time in her nine year career. Her 10.4 points a game was third best on the team in 2005. Only two other Liberty players averaged double digits for the season. Served it up. VJ was second on the team in assists in 2005. She dished out 2.7 helpers a game. Crashed the boards. While scoring and passing from her guard position, VJ also managed to hit the boards this season. She ranked third on the team in rebounding with 3.47 grabs a game. Found the bottom of the net. VJ was one of the most accurate shooters on the team. Her .474 field goal percentage was the third highest on the Liberty this season. Etched her name in the history book. VJ marked not just one, but two milestones in 2005. She became just the seventh player in the history of the WNBA to score 3,000 points. Later in the season when she also pulled down her 1,000th career rebound, she was one of seven players in the league to have both 3,000 points and 1,000 boards. Both milestones came against Phoenix, with the 3,000th point scored on June 18 and the 1,000th rebound grabbed on July 21. She kept going, and going, and going. With the conclusion of the 2005 season, VJ has now played the most minutes and in the most games of any player in the history of the WNBA. She has logged 8,950 minutes in 282 regular season games.
