The leading vote-getter in All-Star balloting announced earlier this week, Swoopes was one of four players in double figures for the Comets, who shot 52 percent (26-of-50) from the field.

Houston (8-5) never trailed after a layup by Swoopes provided a 4-3 lead just 2:46 into the contest. Dominique Canty scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half, helping build the advantage to 36-26.

Three free throws by Sheri Sam capped a 12-2 run that pulled the Sting within 44-42 with just under 14 minutes to play. Sam made just 1-of-8 shots.

Swoopes scored half the points in a 12-2 burst capped at 56-44 on a short jumper by Janeth Arcain with 9:34 to go. It was at least a two-possession game thereafter.

Arcain scored 12 points and Michelle Snow added 11 for the Comets, who have won four in a row following a four-game slide.

Tangela Smith scored 19 points and Allison Feaster added 17 for the Sting (2-12), who have lost nine of their last 10 games and have the worst record in the WNBA.
