Hammon scored 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting to lift the Liberty to a 73-66 triumph over the Sacramento Monarchs in Coyle's first contest since replacing the fired Richie Adubato.

Vickie Johnson added 15 points, Shameka Christon 12 and both made big baskets down the stretch for the Liberty, who trailed by as many as nine points in the second half but rallied for just their second win in 10 games.

New York took the lead for good, 65-63, on a 3-pointer by Christon with 2:17 left but had a one-point cushion before Hammon made a hook shot with 31 seconds to play.

Johnson stole the ball from Sacramento's Ticha Penicheiro with 12 seconds remaining, was fouled and sank two free throws. Hammon capped the scoring with a pair from the line with four seconds left.

Yolanda Griffith had 17 points and Kara Lawson 15 for the Monarchs, who have lost two in a row following a three-game winning streak.
