New York opened its season with a loss to Indiana before reeling off six straight wins. But the Liberty were unable to avenge their only loss of the season in this one.
New York had a 45-32 cushion after Tari Phillips opened the second half with a free throw, but Indiana responded with a 25-7 run. Ebony Hoffman scored six of her nine points during the spurt, which gave the Fever a 57-52 edge with 5:41 remaining.
The Liberty pulled within 70-68 on a jumper by Crystal Robinson with seven seconds left, but Catchings sealed the win with a pair of free throws at the other end.
Becky Hammon scored 22 points and Robinson added 14 for the Liberty, who lost for the first time in three home games this season.
