PORTLAND, Ore./NEW YORK (April 7, 2011) adidas today unveiled new WNBA uniforms with Revolution 30 technology and womens basketball specific TECHFIT base layers. Designed and developed by adidas and using the same technology on NBA courts, the uniforms are 30 percent lighter and dry twice as fast as previous WNBA uniforms to help keep athletes cooler, drier and more comfortable on the court. All 12 WNBA teams will wear the new uniforms beginning this season, which tips off on June 3.

"As competitors we want every advantage we can to play our best on the court, said 2008 WNBA Most Valuable Player Candace Parker of the Los Angeles Sparks. "Lighter uniforms that keep us cooler and drier on the court will keep us from getting too hot or uncomfortable so we can focus on our game and play even better.

The new uniforms, which are made from 60 percent recycled materials, feature adidas Formotion technology which reduces seams, decreases friction between the garment and the players skin and optimizes the players natural movement through specially constructed material. adidas reduced uniform weight and increased player comfort by switching front and back numbers from heavier, dense materials to breathable mesh. The new uniform absorbs moisture in less than three seconds as a result of adidas CLIMACOOL fabrics, which move heat and sweat away from the body through a combination of moisture management materials, ventilation channels and three dimensional garments, helping the uniform dry twice as fast.

Our goal at adidas is to help make athletes lighter, faster and stronger, whether youre playing in the WNBA Finals or a pick-up game with your friends, said Lawrence Norman, adidas Vice President, Global Basketball. The new WNBA uniforms with Revolution 30 technology incorporate the best in design and technology to create the most advanced basketball uniform system. As the official outfitter of the WNBA, we work closely with the league to constantly innovate and improve products to help the best basketball players in the world become one step quicker and jump one inch higher.

For the first time, WNBA players are offered womens specific integrated and customizable uniform systems that include adidas TECHFIT padded and PowerWeb compression base layers and accessories, which help to improve endurance and protect athletes from injury while maintaining flexibility.

Our partnership with adidas has enabled us to provide our players with the best apparel and equipment to play the game. These new uniforms with Revolution 30 technology will ensure our players are competing with the most advanced uniform system available, said Sal LaRocca, Executive Vice President, NBA Global Merchandising.
