Katie Smith has been a member of several USA Basketball teams dating back to the summer of 1993. During her years with USA Basketball, the 5-11 veteran guard has assisted the U.S. in winning gold medals at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games, 1998 and 2002 World Championships, 1999 U.S. Olympic Cup, 1996 R. William Jones Cup, and the 1994 Goodwill Games. She has also won silver medals in the 1997 World Championship Qualifying and the 1995 World University Games. Earlier this year, Smith helped lead USA Basketball to a first place finish at the 2006 Opals World Challenge by averaging 9.2 points and 2.2 rebounds in five games.

Smith was signed by the WNBA and allocated to the Minnesota Lynx on May 3, 1999. She spent six full seasons with the Lynx before being traded along with Minnesota�s second round pick in the 2006 WNBA Draft to the Detroit Shock in exchange for Chandi Jones and the Shock�s 2006 first round draft pick on July 30, 2005.. During her eight-year WNBA career, the former Kodak All-American from the University of Minnesota has played in four All-Star Games and made three postseason appearances.
