To Prank or Not To Prank, That Is the Question

In honor of April Fools Day, WNBA.com asked WNBA players who was the biggest prankster on their team and what are some of the best pranks theyve played or had played on them.

Heres what they had to say:

Sue Bird, Seattle Storm
Some fan or somebody sent me a bunch of water guns so Lauren Jackson and I filled them up and we got our coaches pretty bad, so that was a good one. Other than that, Id say we didnt really have that many pranksters.

Ruthie Bolton, Sacramento Monarchs
Lady Grooms is a jokester. Shes so funny. Shes always up to something. If shes not up to something, Im like, Lady, are you sick? Are you sure youre o.k.? She brings energy to the team. But I like April Fools, too. I love doing stuff. I like seeing peoples reactions, surprising people in a good way. Because I like laughs, laughter to me brings something out of you. It takes more muscles to frown and be upset than it does to smile, so I like make people smile.

Adrienne Goodson, San Antonio Silver Stars
Im always messing around, trying to get somebody. My favorite thing last year, and it wasnt April Fools, but I bought these little stupid glasses with the big eyes, and Coach Harvey was looking for me and she was, Wheres Goodie at? Wheres she at? She knows shes supposed to be out here and blah, blah, blah, and Im like Oh, Im sorry, Im just going to run into the bathroom. And Im running out there and I put my head up with those glasses on, and theyre like Oh my God! I do stupid stuff. Youve got to just laugh every now and then because its funny. Its hard, life is tough, but its funny. Youve got to laugh at it every now and again.

Who is the biggest prankster on your team?
Probably me, acting stupid. Because I do stupid stuff and people look at me like, Are you alright? But hey, you know you want to laugh. We dont have too many jokesters on our team, it would probably be more coming from the coaching staff. Coach Harvey is funny. Shes really funny with that southern, Tennessee drawl.

Carla McGhee, Connecticut Sun
Two of my all-time favorite pranks would be: One, I have this girlfriend whos a radio fanatic, always trying to win, win, win, so I called and told her well, I dont want to get the person in trouble, but I have a connection at the radio station, so I had them call her and tell her that she had won and had to come down to the station and get her tickets right away. And she went down there and there werent any tickets, but I was down there. And the other one was I have a friend whos really into internet dating, who really likes blind dates, so I had it hooked up where she was going to go this restaurant to meet a person and they were going to have this great dinner, and so she was so excited that she called me and said, you are never going to believe what happened, dit, dit dit. Girl, he is fine, he sent me a picture We did all that, we sent a picture and emails, and anyways, she went to this really, really nice restaurant and she was sitting there waiting and he said he was going to be wearing this and nobody came in wearing that. But we ended up having dinner and I ended up paying for it, she got over it but she was kind of pissed at me for a minute there. I know not to go too far, its all done in fun.

Coco Miller, Washington Mystics
Im not too much of a prankster. When I was younger, my dad always used to do the little things, like right in the morning hed be Look up there, theres a spider over there! or something. He was big in little things like that, and I always got fooled every time. Im pretty gullible.

Who is the biggest prankster on your team?
Chamique Holdsclaw. She just kind of livens up the room. Shes always kidding around and stuff.

Ticha Penicheiro, Sacramento Monarchs
I usually try to play the jokes on somebody, but it doesnt last long. Even if I tell somebody a lie, if its a big one, after about 10 minutes, Im like, O.k., its not true. I think I remember about three years ago I told somebody that they had gotten traded. And I think they realized that it was April Fools Day and it wasnt true or whatever, but nothing major. Im not that jokey-jokey person about April Fools day.

Who is the biggest prankster on your team?
Lady Grooms. Shes just a little kid in a big womans body. Shes just funny, hilarious. And its great. You can never be in a bad mood around Lady because shell definitely make you laugh and tell a joke just the way she talks is just funny. But I really respect her personality and its hard to see her not have a good day, so I just respect that in her because she really, truly enjoys the person that she is and always tries to have fun every day.

Nykesha Sales, Connecticut Sun
Im still playing pranks, thats just my characteristic. One time I had some really good friends and I told them that I was getting traded and they were so upset. This happened like two years ago, and I just said, You know guys I found out Im getting traded so Im not going to be here. And they were really, really upset. That was a prank I pulled, and they were crying and stuff. I actually got my mom involved, it was a really good prank. It was about a good two-hour, three-hour prank before I had to break the news because it was getting really bad.

Who is the biggest prankster on your team?
I think Shannon Johnson. Shes the comedian, the prankster, the center of attention always on our team. Shes always just clowning around dance routines, always jokes, always real animated, whether its playing jokes, excitement, whatever it is, shes the leader, so I think thats just Shannons personality, shes loud and obnoxious at times, so I give it to Pee Wee.

Jackie Stiles
Im not usually the type who plays the pranks Im the one whos always falling for them. Everybodys always getting me on April Fools.

Who is the biggest prankster youve played with?
Tamicha Jackson. Whenever youre in a room with her, youre going to be rolling on the floor laughing. Shes just really funny. Id say shes the funniest. And I just met Lady Grooms. I hadnt really had the chance to spend a lot time with Lady, and shes hilarious, she just had me laughing the whole day, shes just so funny.

Tina Thompson, Houston Comets
I am so not the prankster, and I always get the jokes played on me. So April Fools Day is not one of my favorite holidays.

Who is the biggest prankster youve played with?
By far, leading in all categories of just jokes and pranks is Cynthia Cooper. Because shes so convincing and she kind of has that personality and shes like that all the time. Shes always upbeat, kind of going or whatever, so shell totally pull one over on you and youll not know it. Were not necessarily with each other unless were doing an appearance or something like that, but just as far as pranks and jokes, I know that she probably gets a lot of people very good on April Fools Day. Shes always the jokester on our team, whether its taking the sneaker or just kind of like doing something funny all the time.

Teresa Weatherspoon, New York Liberty
Im always playing pranks. I wake up and think of ones, especially on my mom or something. Im always just coming up with some silly stuff or I might even tell my mom, Mom, Im so sick, I cant get on the flight and I might be at the door. I might be at the door and then all of a sudden I hit the doorbell and she opens it up and Im like April Fools. Im right here. Im always April fooling my mom, always. Or Ill say Im not coming home until February 30 or something and shes like Oh, really? because no ones thinking, February 30th, like no, Mom, April Fools. February 30? No mom, cmon. Im always doing something with my mom.

Who is the biggest prankster on your team?
Its Crystal Robinson. By far, its Crystal Robinson. You have to always be on your Ps and Qs with her, always keep your eye open. You never know what shes about to do. Shes probably one of the funniest people on the team. Im just thinking about her and Im about to start laughing because shes always doing something silly, always.
