On the Road With...
Katie Douglas

Shooting guard Katie Douglas was a member of both the All-WNBA first team and All-Defensive team in 2006. She was also named the Most Valuable Player in the All-Star Game. But after helping to lead her Connecticut Sun squad to the top regular season record in the East, Douglas fractured her foot and wasn't her normal self as the favored Sun were dumped in three games by the Detroit Shock in the Eastern Conference finals.

But after recovering and rehabbing in the fall, she is back on the court and at full strength this winter lighting up the scoreboard overseas for Vilnius (Lithuania). She is looking forward to returning to action for the Sun, and she spoke with WNBA.com's Matt Wurst about her recent travel experiences.

Q. Where have you been able to travel for basketball or for pleasure? What are the coolest countries you've been to?
A. "Athens, Greece... that's a great place to live. It was a great two years there. That's where I met my future husband, and I try to go back there as often as I can. I've been in some really not-so-great places, though. The difference between men's and women's basketball in Europe is interesting. The men play in the big cities and the women play in some of the smaller cities and villages in order to build up a fan base. But like I said, I also met my husband while playing overseas, so I have had many special experiences in my travels."

Q. What is it about Lithuania that makes you keep going back?
A. "The teams and the fans are really supportive of women's basketball as well as (supportive of) me personally. We have been competitive in the European competitions and get to play against many of the best players in the world. The opportunity to play there has helped me both on the court as well as personally."

Q. Where haven't you been that you would like to visit someday?
A. "I want to go to Rome... and Barcelona. I tried to convince my husband to go to the Fiji Islands for our honeymoon, but I got denied. And Australia... there are many places that I haven't been."

Q. What is your favorite destination for a vacation?
A. "We went to St. Lucia for our two-week honeymoon. That was pretty nice. But I think probably Maui."

Q. What are your favorite WNBA cities to visit?
A. "Obviously Indianapolis... that is my favorite. I also like New York, because there's everything -- shopping and dining and entertainment -- and you can get there by foot."

Q. What is the best WNBA city in which to go out shopping? What are your favorite stores?
A. "Houston, the Galleria mall."

Q. What are your favorite restaurants to go out to in WNBA cities?
A. "When we are in Sacramento, we always go to P.F. Chang's. When we are in Phoenix, I go to California Pizza Kitchen."
