Kayte Christensen: Confessions of a T.V. Addict

It is interesting to see the traditional gender roles, of men as the aggressor and the one who usually makes the ultimate decision and women as the passive googly-eyed females waiting to be swept off their feet, actually being challenged. I know they arent completely being reversed and it was all too obvious during the Rose Ceremony at the end of tonights episode. Trista, unlike Alex (Bachelor #1) and Aaron (Bachelor #2), cried after the ceremony ended because she, Doesnt like the thought of making somebody sad!!! Please tell me what man, no matter how confident he is with his masculinity is going to trade places and be upset about having to turn down 10 women he's only known for a couple hours? They are sitting there thinking, Wow, I have 15 women just waiting to make out with me!! Women on the other hand sit there and think, Oh dear, what if I made a mistake? What if my soul mate was the Breast Implant Salesman?
I must say, however, being a female, it was nice to hear a bunch of men sitting there during their interview and talking about how theyve partied their fair share and all that has done for them is made them realize that what they want in life is a wife and two kids!! Its not often you get to hear men revealing their own fairy tale stories while women are often all too willing to cough up their exact plans for their wedding ceremony that they have been planning since they were 10 years old.
Knowing there are great differences between men and women, I am interested to see how Trista fairs as the show goes on. I can see her falling for several guys because women are such emotional beings, hence bawling on the first episode, that they are capable of making emotional connections on many different levels and end up not knowing what to do because you want to be friends with everyone!!!
As much of a cynic as I may be about the idea behind the show (please God, dont let anyone in their right mind think it is a good idea to get married to someone youve known for a couple months while living in an ABC created fairy tale world), I am actually very excited to see how the rest of the show turns out. Plus the fact that there is also a show out that started on Monday night called "Joe Millionaire" in which the whole Joe inheriting $50 million thing is a complete lie. It will be interesting to see at the end of the show if in fact finding true love is possible on a reality TV show like the "Bachelorette."
Til next week
