August 23: Ticha Penicheiro
Sacramento Monarchs

Monarchs guard Ticha Penicheiro might very well be the best passer in WNBA history. She led the league in assits six out othe first eight seasons from 1998-2003, holds the single-game assist record with 16 (which she accomplished twice, once in 1998 and again in 2002) and is the all-time assist leader in WNBA history with 1,580 career dimes.

At age 30, she has showed no sign of slowing down. In fact, this season has been the Monarchs best in franchise history. The team, which had never finished higher than second place, has already clinched the Western Conference crown and is chasing the Connecticut Sun for the best overall record in the WNBA.

The Monarchs have won three games in a row and are 15-4 against the West this season. In the past week, Penicheiro has games with five, four and nine assists and shot 50 percent from the floor. Her nine assists in the win over Seattle on Saturday was just another exclamation point on another fine season. Penicheiro is currently sixth in the league in assists per game (4.5 apg) and second in assists per turnovers (2.3).

Penicheiro will also have the opportunity to climb up the all-time rankings in playoff assists. Her 105 postseason assists is fifth in WNBA history.
