State and Local Senior Games Organizations Can Work with the WNBA to Get Seniors Excited about Sports

The National Senior Games Association and the WNBA Announce Partnership

The National Senior Games Association (NSGA) and the WNBA have formalized a community partnership at the national level to jointly develop programs that promote health and fitness of senior adults across the country. The NSGA and the WNBA share a common goal reaching, motivating and inspiring seniors to be active and fully participate in life and sports. This partnership will help increase exposure for and participation in Senior Games on the national, state and local level and provide the WNBA teams with an enthusiastic audience!

Did you know that the average price of a ticket to a WNBA game is less than the price of a movie ticket and is an afternoon or evening filled with high quality basketball and fun entertainment for everyone? Even seniors who are not traditional sports fans will find the WNBA and its players an inspiring example of the progress made by women in our culture.

The WNBA wants to provide NSGA member organizations and their participants with a special opportunity to experience the fun and excitement of WNBA games. Senior athletes from all sports, their family and friends can take advantage of this special opportunity. State and Local senior games associations in WNBA team cities may be able to create a Senior Night at the arena with their local WNBA franchise during one of the teams 2002 home games. The WNBA season tips off on May 25 and ends on August 13. Another added bonus of attending one of these games is that the local organization may receive discount tickets to the game and could be recognized on the arena PA system and/or jumbotron.

**The NSGA and WNBA partnership may entitle you to additional benefits, depending on the level of your local participation. Other benefits could include:

  • WNBA player and/or coach appearances at special senior games events
  • WNBA player-led and/or coach-led basketball clinics for senior games participants
  • Concourse tabling at WNBA arena (to distribute senior games information)
  • Participation in pre-game ball exchange between WNBA and senior games players
  • Behind-the-scenes arena tour
  • On-court activity (scrimmage, etc.)
  • Fundraising opportunities (auction items availability, etc.)

**Exact benefits to be negotiated between WNBA teams and local senior games associations.

The National Senior Games Association is asking state and local senior games associations with proximity to a WNBA team to take advantage of this great opportunity by inviting a WNBA representative to a meeting to discuss and promote the WNBA Senior Games or Senior Night at the earliest opportunity. Dont delay! Many WNBA teams are already making plans to host special nights for other groups and want to be available to come to your meeting. Please schedule these meetings as soon as possible by calling the WNBA team contact listed for your local area on the attached sheet.
