Comets Traditions New and Old

Traditions are found in many walks of life, but few compare to traditions found at sporting venues from high school to the professional ranks. For a decade now, Comets fans have made the Compaq Center and Toyota Center one of the toughest venues to play for visiting teams in the entire WNBA and now this tradition moves to Reliant Arena for 2008

In 2008, the Comets have a record fifth WNBA Championship in their sights. Karleen Thompson, Michelle Snow and Tina Thompson will need a sixth man (or woman) to bring Houston another title this season, and by taking part in Comets traditions, you can make a difference.

Some traditions have graced the Comets home floor since their inception in 1997, but this year were taking it to another level. Below are Comets traditions new and old. Be a difference maker this season and know the Comets traditions before you walk through the doors at Reliant Arena.

Dribble Count

When the opponent is at the free throw line, count the number of dribbles she takes. When she is about to shoot, yell the letter C as long and as loud as you can.

Clapping Crescendo

Right before tip-off after the Haley Stomp, start clapping slowly and progressively get louder and faster.

3-pointer

When the Comets score a 3 pt. basket, chant the following lines: Hey! Hey! Hey Hey Hey!

Go-- Houston Comets! Go-- Houston Comets! Go-- Houston Comets!

She is Introductions

Comets fans will introduce the home team this year. As each player is announced, you complete the introduction by yelling her name after the announcer says SHE IS.

For example, the announcer will say:

A SIX TWO FORWARD FROM USC, SHE IS

and fans yell: TINA THOMPSON!

Raise Your Hands

Raise your arms before a Comets player shoots her free throw. When the basket is made, bring your arms down in a swift motion and say swish.

Stand Up

Stand up from player introductions until the Comets score their first basket.

One Clap

When the visiting team players are being introduced, clap once and only once after each name is read.

Haley Stomp

When Haley waves her towel, get loud. Haley will throw the towel in the air, and as it hits the ground, be silent. Then, as Haley jumps on each letter of the Comets logo, yell the letter and spell out COMETS.
