HOUSTON, March 24 –The Houston Comets announced today that the team has signed forward Kayte Christensen. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Christensen (6-2, UC Santa Barbara ‘02) averaged 1.6 points and 2.0 rebounds in 11 games last season with the Phoenix Mercury.
In four seasons in the WNBA, Christensen holds career averages of 3.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.75 steals. Christensen was selected by Phoenix in the third round (40th overall) of the 2002 WNBA Draft. During college, she was named to the Big West All-Freshman Team (1999), All-Big West First Team (2001-2002), named the 2002 Big West Conference Player of the Year and holds the record in career field-goal percentage (.549) at UC Santa Barbara.
This season will mark the 10th Anniversary for the Comets and the WNBA, making it the longest-running professional women’s league in history. The 2006 season will tip off at Toyota Center on May 21 when the Comets host the San Antonio Silver Stars. Individual game tickets for the preseason and regular season will go on sale April 30.
