In her second season as an assistant coach with the Connecticut Sun, Jennifer Gillom brings extensive WNBA experience, both as a player and a coach, to the position. Hired on February 4, 2013, Gillom joined the Sun after spending the 2012 season as an assistant coach with the Washington Mystics.

A 2009 inductee into the Women�s Basketball Hall of Fame, Gillom began her coaching career in 2004 at Xavier College Preparatory in Phoenix, leading the girls� basketball team at the private high school to a 130-25 record in six seasons. A four-time regional coach of the year, Gillom led the Gators to the state tournament every year and earned one regional title.

Gillom began her WNBA coaching career in 2008 as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Lynx before being elevated to interim head coach with the Lynx three days before the start of the 2009 season. In Minnesota, she compiled a record of 14-20 while coaching All-Rookie Team member Renee Montgomery and All-Defensive Team member Nicky Anosike. She spent the 2010 and 2011 seasons as the head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks, finishing her tenure with a mark of 28-40.

One of the first players signed by the WNBA, Gillom played seven seasons in the league from 1997 to 2003. She spent six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury before completing her career with the Los Angeles Sparks in 2003. She led the Mercury to the playoffs three times, including a trip to the WNBA Finals in 1998, and averaged career-highs of 20.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per game during that season. The winner of the 2002 Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award, Gillom averaged 13.4 points and 4.5 rebounds in her career. She participated in the inaugural WNBA All-Star Game in 1999 and was named to the 1997 All-WNBA first team and 1998 All-WNBA second team.

Gillom also has extensive experience with USA Basketball. Most recently, she served as an assistant coach on the staff of the USA Basketball Team that won a Gold Medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and the 2010 World Championships in the Czech Republic. A player on six different USA Basketball teams, Gillom won five gold medals, including at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. In total, USA teams on which she played posted a record of 39-1.

Prior to joining the Mercury, Gillom enjoyed a lengthy professional career overseas, playing for teams in Italy, Greece, Spain and Turkey.

Collegiately, she played for Van Chancellor at Mississippi, where she was the 1986 SEC Female Athlete of the Year. A Kodak All-American that same year, Gillom was a four-time All-SEC first team selection who helped her teams to a 103-23 record, four NCAA appearances, two Sweet Sixteens (1983 and 1984) and two Elite Eight finishes (1985 and 1986).
