WNBA and Connecticut Sun to Host Community Events During Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star 2013

NEW YORK, July 18, 2013 – As part of Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star 2013 in Uncasville, Conn., the WNBA will celebrate its ongoing commitment to improving the community through a series of WNBA Cares special events to promote healthy living, nutrition and the overall wellness of youth and families July 25-26.

Newly crowned Miss USA Erin Brady, a Connecticut native who has inspired others through a dedication to her community, will join WNBA All-Stars to share healthy living and nutrition tips, promote the importance of physical activity through fitness clinics, and unveil a newly refinished basketball court to illustrate the need for places where kids and families can live, learn and play.

The Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday, July 27, featuring some of the most talented and passionate players in women’s basketball, will broadcast live on ABC at 3:30 p.m. ET from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville. The 2013 game will mark the third All-Star hosted by the Connecticut Sun and Mohegan Sun Arena. The team also hosted the event in 2005 and 2009.

The following is a list of Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star 2013 activities Thursday-Saturday:

THURSDAY, JULY 25
• WNBA All-Star Fireworks Tip Off Celebration – WNBA fans can experience a spectacular fireworks display hosted by the WNBA and the Connecticut Sun, celebrating the tip off of Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star 2013 festivities.

FRIDAY, JULY 26 • WNBA Cares Basketball Court Refinishing and Dedication – To honor its commitment to community, the WNBA and Bona, the Official Hardwood Floor Care Partner of the WNBA, will participate in the unveiling and dedication of a newly refinished basketball court to benefit 6th-8th grade students at Bennie Dover Jackson Middle School in New London.

The court was recently refinished with Bona’s Sport System, featuring GreenGuard certified finish and paint products, that creates healthy, safe and durable hardwood gym floors.

Jamba Juice WNBA FIT Clinic – Following the dedication, WNBA Cares and WNBA FIT partner Jamba Juice will conduct a fitness clinic with 75 boys and girls to underscore the importance of physical activity and healthy living for children and families. WNBA All-Stars will educate students on healthy eating and exercise habits and guide them through a variety of stations and drills that include sit-ups, push-ups and shuttle runs, among other activities.

• WNBA East and West All-Star Open Practices – WNBA fans of all ages can get an up-close view of East and West WNBA All-Stars as they prepare for the big game during a pair of open and free-of-charge practices. The East All-Stars are scheduled from 3:00-3:45 p.m., and the West All-Stars from 4:15-5:00 p.m. [Media availability will take place between practices starting at 3:45 p.m.]

SATURDAY, JULY 27
• Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star Game 2013 – Featuring the top women’s basketball players in the world, the Boost Mobile WNBA All-Star Game 2013 on Saturday, July 27 will broadcast live on ABC at 3:30 p.m. ET from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, home to the Connecticut Sun and host to three All-Stars since 2005. Individual game tickets are available to the general public at Ticketmaster locations, including by phone at 800-745-3000, or online at ticketmaster.com or connecticutsun.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the Mohegan Sun Box Office from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
