Before she joined the Charlotte Sting, Monique Currie had plenty of experience in big games after playing in three Final Fours at Duke University. Now, when she's not listening to Beyonce or watching CNN, this native of our nation's capital is trying to lead the Sting into the playoffs.

If you could play one-on-one against any player or athlete, who would it be and why? Dwyane Wade because I would want to see how many he could beat me by.
Who has been a role model for you in basketball? A lot of my coaches.
When did you become interested in the game of basketball and when did you decide you wanted to pursue it professionally? I became interested in basketball when I was in elementary school and decided to pursue it as a career when the WNBA came about..
Do you have a favorite on-court moment? Making it to the Final Four three times.
Do you have any superstitions or rituals? I shower and then have a nap before the game.
Name a coach who has inspired you and describe how he/she improved your game and/or helped in you development off the court. My high school and AAU coach Wayne Ferrell because he was always very supportive and encouraging and pushed me very hard.
What are your hobbies or primary interests outside of basketball? I like to read for fun, shopping and watching CNN.
Who were the major non-basketball influences in your life and why? My family because they were very supportive and sacrificed a lot for me.
How would others describe you? Sarcastic and hard to read.
How would you describe yourself? Sarcastic and fun loving.
What is one surprising fact about you that many people do not know? I’m nicer than I seem.
Of which achievement are you most proud? Working on my master’s in college.
What would you do with an Olympic medal if you won one? If you have one already, where is it and why? I would give it to my mom so I wouldn’t lose it.
If you were not a basketball player, what would you be? A teacher. I would teach government.
What is your favorite food? Breakfast foods.

What is your favorite actress? Sanaa Lathan. I just got her autograph the other day. My friend works in L.A. and he knows that she’s my favorite actress so he got me the Love & Basketball screenplay and she signed it. I was so excited.
Who is your favorite actor? Will Smith.
What is your favorite musician/artist? Beyonce.
Favorite song to do a karaoke number to? Anything Beyonce.
Favorite place to visit/spend time? Home in Washington, D.C.
What is your jersey number? Does that have special significance? 25. Because I was born on the 25th of February.
When your playing career is over, what might you pursue professionally and why? Teaching because I love the kids.
