Hi Nancy! I must say that I am very excited to see the WNBA expand to Atlanta. How do you see the Dream doing in 2008 with Marynell Meadors running things and how do you see their roster coming together. Also, I'm pretty sure you have heard this question about other cities, but I was wondering if there is there anything I can do to help bring a team to Philly?
-Sylvia, Philadelphia

"Yeah, first of all, I want to congratulate everyone in Atlanta who helped to make this expansion team happen… especially on such short notice. And I think the group running the Dream did a great job in bringing in Marynell, because she's seen a lot of this league. She's seen the players, she knows the coaches and she understands how to win at this level. She's already built a franchise once in Charlotte, and I think this will be another opportunity for her to come in as a veteran coach and build something great in Atlanta.

"And I LOVE the name Dream! I think that choice is off-the-charts fantastic! Because it IS a dream! Any city that gets an opportunity with a WNBA team like this has achieved something great, and I know the fans are gonna support the heck out of them down there.

"In terms of the roster coming together, I would be looking for something exciting in the expansion draft… maybe an Ivory Latta from Detroit if she's available? There will be a lot of talent out there and Atlanta is going to get some really good players. They're going to get a solid group of players, all of whom are right on the edge of starting for their current team.

"They're going to have a much better chance of succeeding right out of the gate than when I had to make these picks for the Shock back in the day. If you couldn't tell, I'm still bitter! LOL. I'm still in therapy over that situation! And they're gonna get starters! Half of the people I picked, I couldn't even pronounce their names! I was worse than Van Chancellor! Long story short, I think the Dream are gonna be just fine.

"As for bringing a team to Philadelphia, yes, there is something you can do. You can dip into your trust fund. You should take somewhere around $20 million and give Donna Orender a call at her office. Her number is 212- … well, you get the point. I bet they'll put your call through.

"But seriously, folks… I look at Hilton Koch in Houston, I look at Kathy and Carla in L.A. … and man oh man, if I could give those women in Seattle a hug, I sure would… because these are passionate people who have the necessary love, desire and appreciation for sports. There's money out there. And if it's something you love and care about and you have the ability to make an investment financially, then what a wonderful thing to do. You're supporting something you love.

"Philly's a great basketball town, so I'll tell Donna to be expecting your call."

Hey Nancy, have you heard anything new about the big injuries last season to WNBA players? What is the status of Tamika Catchings, Cheryl Ford, Lindsey Harding and anyone else you can think of?
-Justine, Beaufort, S.C.

"I've talked to Lindsey a couple of times and her rehab is coming along fabulously. She's playing and working her way back and she doesn't even want to wear a knee brace. She just got her number retired at Duke, she's doing some TV work for ESPN… she's been a busy girl.

"Catch has been rehabbing really hard. And as she's said in her blog, she's ahead of schedule, which doesn't really surprise me at all about her.

"I saw Cheryl in Detroit recently and she looks fantastic. She's doing so well physically that she couldn't help but knock me out of the way when I was going for popcorn. She boxed me out… and I was a little upset about it, but that's the way she plays. ;) It took me a while to get up, but I did eventually get that popcorn. No, seriously, she said her knee feels terrific and she's working hard to rehab and get back to 100 percent for the start of the season."

Nancy, when will you announce this year's top 10 point guards in the country? Any chance of getting a sneak peek at your list?
-Travis, Lewisville, Texas

"You must be speaking of the Nancy Lieberman Award which, thanks to the Rotary Club of Detroit, honors the women's college basketball point guard of the year. And yes, you can get a sneak peek. You need to go to my site or click here to check out some of the top candidates so far this season.

"Among seniors, Matee Ajavon from Rutgers has to be mentioned in the discussion along with Shannon Bobbitt from Tennessee. And who's played better than Kristi Toliver, the junior from Maryland? She has also impressed me a ton with the work she's put in to improve her game."

Hi. Will Anne Donovan be coaching in the WNBA in 2008 or sometime in the future? And what were the circumstances around her decision to leave the Storm?
-Michelle, Tacoma, Wash.

"I don't think Anne will be coaching in the WNBA in 2008. She has enough on her plate coaching the U.S. team and going after another gold next summer in Beijing. In fact, she was just honored as USA Basketball's Co-National Coach of the Year with Mike Krzyzewski. But I wouldn't be surprised if Anne came back sometime after the Olympics. Coaching and organizing that team takes up just an inordinate amount of time and effort and travel and responsibility.

"But I wouldn't say it was solely the rigors of the national team job weighing on her. Annie is a smart woman and has great instincts, and she just felt like this was the right time for her to leave. And I think her instincts have always served her well."

The Academy Award nominations just came out, Nancy. Who ya got for Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Actress?
-Alexandra, Rancho Mirage, Calif.

"Hmmm, good question… For best actress, I would have to go with Brenda Frese, the coach at Maryland. She has done an incredible job of acting like she only needs one chair to sit down. :) She earns my vote for being a large, pregnant woman impersonating a coach. She has two babies on her lap! She is a trouper!

"Honestly, if the movie hasn't been on ESPN or NBA TV, I haven't seen it this year."

Hi, Nance! Big fan for a long time! Anyway, I'm wondering where you'd rate Chamique Holdsclaw's chances of coming back to the WNBA in 2008. She's playing very well overseas in Poland and it seems silly for her not to return to the U.S. for another run or two. Whaddaya think?

"Selfishly, I would love to see Chamique Holdsclaw come back to the WNBA. But I really just want her to be happy. And if she's happy in Europe and under less pressure and staying involved in the game to the point that she wants to be involved, I think we should respect that. She has to do what's best for her, and neither you nor I are in position to make that call.

"Certainly I wouldn't rule out the possibility of her coming back. She's still young and healthy and she can obviously still play, but it's her decision and she has to do what's best for her right now."

Style-wise, which team in the WNBA has the best uniforms? If you were going to the gym to shoot around, which would you feel most comfy wearing?
-Cam0girl, Brooklyn, N.Y.

"I'm wearing a Phoenix Mercury jersey, but not the new one. I'm wearing the old school Jennifer Gillom watermelon, orange-ish-colored one that matches exactly NOTHING in my closet. Aside from standing out, which I obviously would, I'll never run into one of those awkward situations where I'm wearing the same outfit as someone else.

"I remember one of my first days with that team. We got the uniforms and it was like, 'What do you wear with watermelon?!?' I was in such a fashion dilemma back in '97… I just didn't know where to go with that color. But looking back, I absolutely love it!

"There's clearly not another team in the league -- maybe not another team in the world! -- that uses that color so… um… powerfully. :) "
