White Signs Two-Year Deal With Sun

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (February 3, 2011) – The Connecticut Sun announced today that veteran guard Tan White has been signed to a two-year contract.

As per team policy, no terms were released.

“We’re really excited to have Tan back with us,” coach Mike Thibault said. “She has become an integral part of our team at both ends of the court. As everyone witnessed last year, she has become one of the best defensive guards in the league. She gave us a huge spark, whether she started or came off the bench. Tan is well liked by both her teammates and the staff as a consummate team player.”

Veteran forward Kerri Gardin was also re-signed to a training camp contract. Gardin has played in 92 games over the past three seasons for Connecticut.

“I’m glad to have Kerri back,” Thibault said. “She has been an important part of our team for the past three years.”

Originally selected second overall in the 2005 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, White was signed to a free agent contract by the Sun on June 19, 2009. She appeared in 30 games with 15 starts in 2009, averaging 9.5 points per game while leading the Sun with a career-best 49 three-pointers.

White was signed to a one-year deal following the 2009 season, and she came back last season to average 10.1 points per game with career highs of 79 assists and 54 steals. She also had another 49 made threes.
