Whalen Czechs In

Hello to everyone from Prague!

Another season has begun overseas. Last week we had four games in the Czech League and won all of them. Three at home, one on the road. On Wednesday night we have our first Euroleague game, traveling to France to play Bourges Basket.

As those of you who follow the Connecticut Sun know, I hurt my eye in the last game of the WNBA regular season, so I have to wear goggles for the time being. It has been an adjustment playing with protective eye wear. It was not something I ever thought I would have to do, but taking that precaution after my eye injury is definitely in my best interest. Now, I just have to get used to them so it becomes normal to wear them when I play. Pictures to come soon!

This is my third season in Prague, so it is safe to say I know my way around the city. This is also my third year with most of my teammates and coaches, so it has been great getting back in touch with everyone.

Last season, we were able to win the Czech league. This was the first time in 13 seasons a team other than Gambrinus BRNO had won the Czech title. So we go into this season with high expectations.

As for my down time, Slingbox, iheartradio and NFL Sunday ticket are three great products that – in the last few years – have made my overseas life so much better. Slingbox allows me to watch my TV from home in Prague via internet. Iheartradio lets me keep up with talk radio, which I have really became a fan of recently. And, of course, NFL Sunday Ticket lets me watch every NFL game on the weekends, either on TV or internet. So I am really in touch with all of the sports and TV shows happening in the States.

That means I am able to follow both the University of Minnesota football team and the Vikings. Too bad both had tough losses last weekend. Oh well can't win them all!

Hopefully I’ll soon be writing about some big Euroleague victories! I hope everyone is enjoying fall back home!
