Sun Overseas Report Week Four

Members of the Connecticut Sun have been busy overseas with their European teams.

In EuroLeague action on November 4th was MBK Euroleasing Sopron, featuring Amber Holt. She scored 16 points, pulled down six rebounds, grabbed five steals and dished out two assists in a 78-64 victory over KSSSE AZS-PWSZ Gorzow.

Chante Black had seven points and seven rebounds as Tarsus Municipality defeated Besiktas Cola Turka, 79-76, in Turkish League action on November 1st.

In the Czech Republic, USK Prague trailed 20-4 at the end of the first quarter to Rivas Ecopolis in EuroLeague action, but came back to within 40-35 at the half. Sun point guard Lindsay Whalen scored seven straight points to put Prague up 44-42 early in the third quarter, but it was not enough as Prague fell to the Spanish side 83-76 on November 4th. Whalen finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals in the contest.

In Russia, Sandrine Gruda scored 16 points, grabbed six rebounds and had one steal and one block as UMMC Ekaterinburg defeated Cras Basket Taranto 79-72 on November 5th in EuroLeague play. Earlier in the week, Gruda had 11 points and two rebounds while Asjha Jones scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds as Ekaterinburg toppled Dynamo Kursk 92-65 on November 2nd in Russian League action.

Rounding out the Sun players on teams participating in EuroLeague action was Erin Phillips and Lotos Gdynia, which defeated Tarbes GB 73-68 on November 5th. Phillips had 14 points, six rebounds, six assists and two steals in the victory. On October 31st, Phillips scored 12 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists as Gdynia defeated Wisla Can-Pack 78-70 in Polish Cup action.

In Spain, Kiesha Brown had 10 points, five rebounds and one steal as Argon Uni Girona defeated Joventut Mariana Soller in overtime, 79-77, on October 31st. Also in Spanish League action, Kerri Gardin scored eight points, grabbed five rebounds and three steals in Cadi La Seu D’Urgell’s 68-62 overtime loss to Real Canoe NC on October 31st.
