Sandrine Gruda had 12 points and five rebounds as UMMC Ekaterinburg held on to beat rival Ros Casares 82-70 in a battle of EuroLeague Women Group A powers in Russia on December 16th Gruda’s teammate, Asjha Jones, had four points and four rebounds in 18 minutes for UMMC Ekaterinburg (7-1). Ros Casares of Valencia, Spain, fell to 6-2.
Anete Jekabsone-Zogota was one of six players to reach double figures, scoring 13 points as Group D frontrunner Spartak Moscow Region destroyed second-place Fenerbahce 103-59 to remain undefeated on December 16th.
Jekabsone-Zogota is averaging 12.6 points per game for Spartak (7-0), which is loaded with WNBA stars, including Diana Taurasi, Sylvia Fowles, Janel McCarville and Kelly Miller. Spartak has outscored its opponents by an average of 24.8 points per game.
Also in Group D, Erin Phillips was held to two points as Lotos Gdynia fell to 2-6 with an 83-73 loss to Tarbes in France. Phillips is averaging 10 points, five rebounds and three assists for Lotos Gdynia, and has made 44.1 percent of her three-point attempts.
Over in Group C, Lindsay Whalen scored 15 points in a losing cause for ZVVZ USK Prague, which dropped an 87-72 decision to KSSSE AZS-PWSZ Gorzow on December 16th. Whalen is averaging 14.9 points per game for Prague (4-4), reaching double figures in seven of eights games.
Also in Group C, Amber Holt had 16 points on 5 of 6 shooting as MBK Euroleasing (3-4) defeated Bourges Basket 83-73. Holt also had five rebounds in the win, and is averaging 12.4 points and 4.6 rebounds on 58.6-percent shooting through seven games.
