Sun Sign Rasmussen

UNCASVILLE, CT. (February 21, 2007) — The Connecticut Sun announced Wednesday it has signed free agent forward Kristen Rasmussen to a three-year contract.

As per team policy, no terms were released.

The 6-foot-2 forward was drafted by the Utah Starzz in the fourth round (51st overall) of the 2000 WNBA Draft. Over her seven-year career, she has averaged 4.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game while playing for Utah, Miami, Indiana, Houston, Charlotte and most recently, Phoenix.

“Kristen is a terrific addition to our team,” Sun Head Coach Mike Thibault said. “She is a veteran player who can play two or three positions on the front line. She’s one of the better defenders in our league and has improved her offensive game throughout her WNBA career. I look for her to fill the role that Asjha has played the last couple years. We consider this to be a major addition to our team.”

Rasmussen spent this past winter playing for the Adelaide Lightning of Australia’s Women’s National Basketball League with Sun guard Erin Phillips. Rasmussen averaged nine points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 16 games for the Lightning.

“Kristen brings us great experience,” General Manager Chris Sienko said. “She will be a perfect fit to a very strong rotation. We are eager for the season to get underway.”
