Sun To Play Four Preseason Games

UNCASVILLE, CT. (March 3, 2004) – The defending Eastern Conference Champion Connecticut Sun open the preseason May 1st, hosting Tamika Williams and the Minnesota Lynx at Mohegan Sun Arena in the first of four preseason games leading up to the regular-season tipoff at Washington on May 22nd.

The Sun will also host the Charlotte Sting on May 8th in Bridgeport at The Arena at Harbor Yards before traveling to face the Houston Comets on May 12th. Connecticut will close out the preseason by visiting the Lynx on May 14th.

“Playing four preseason games is an increase from previous years,” said Connecticut Sun General Manager Chris Sienko, noting the Sun have never played more than three preseason games in their history. “But this will help us fine-tune our team to better prepare us for playing eight of twelve games on the road to start the regular season.”

The game against Charlotte in Bridgeport will give the team a chance to reach out to fans in the western part of the state while the game in Minnesota will be a homecoming for Sun point guard Lindsay Whalen. The last time Connecticut visited Minnesota, last July 14th, a crowd of 16,227 filled the Target Center.

“We are excited with our preseason schedule, including one game at Mohegan Sun Arena, and one in Bridgeport at the Arena at Harbor Yard,” Sienko said. “Our schedule will help us to get the fans excited for the regular season, test us against some tough competition, and ready us for the challenge of defending our Eastern Conference title.”
