Solar Power at Celtics Pre-Season Game

SPDT with Jason Kidd For the second straight year, Solar Power (SPDT) was given the opportunity to represent the CT SUN and perform at a pre-season NBA game at Mohegan Sun on October 22, 2005. This year’s NBA match-up was between the Boston Celtics and the New Jersey Nets. With a packed arena, SPDT showed some Sun spirit while performing two of the season’s hottest dance routines “Holler Back Girl” and “Get Right.”

This NBA game showed Solar Power dancers a whole new side of the professional sports world. While cheering both teams on, all of us were able to observe and appreciate the intensity of professional women’s basketball, given the laid back nature of the pre-season men’s game. Still, the excitement was undeniable!

With major super players on the court like Jason Kidd, Vince Carter and Paul Pierce, we couldn’t help but feel lucky to have a front row view of a professional men’s game like this. Even more exciting, was the welcoming Connecticut fans gave rookie Ryan Gomes who made his Celtics debut in his home state. Before the game, Gomes gave a brief speech welcoming and thanking his fans for their support, bringing most people to their feet in applause for the up and coming basketball star. For SPDT member Terri and Coach Andrea, seeing Gomes play pro was especially thrilling since they recently attended Providence College with him and performed at his games as dancers.

After a Celtics win, members of the dance team were able to meet some of the NBA players and take a few pictures for keepsake. Since this game was the last of the 2005 season for Solar Power, the dancers made sure to have a special end of the year dinner following the NBA showdown. It was a great night! We all look forward to next season’s excitement and hopefully keeping up the tradition of entertaining basketball fans at future pre-season NBA games as well.

Best Wishes for the New Year and thanks for supporting Solar Power and the CT SUN!
