Sun to Host Preseason Game Against Charlotte in Bridgeport

The WNBA is coming to Bridgeport.

Arena at Harbor Yard was the site of a press conference Wednesday to announce that the Connecticut Sun will play a preseason game against the Charlotte Sting on May 8th. Bridgeport Mayor John Fabrizi, who was on hand for the press conference, was presented with an autographed basketball by Sun General Manager Chris Sienko.

“This isn’t just basketball, it’s family entertainment,” Fabrizi said. “We can’t wait for this to happen.”

Tickets for the game are on sale now. They can be purchased at the Arena at Harbor Yard box office, at all Ticketmaster outlets, online here or charged by phone at 203-368-1000.

“We’re excited to bring our team to an area of the state where our fan base has been steadily growing,” Sienko said. “We believe this is a great opportunity to reach out to those who might not be familiar with the WNBA.”

The Sun are coming off the best season in franchise history, winning their first Eastern Conference Championship before falling to the Seattle Storm in the WNBA Finals last October. With stars like Nykesha Sales, Lindsay Whalen, Taj McWilliams-Franklin, Katie Douglas and Asjha Jones returning, the Sun are expected to contend again for the league championship.
