The USA Basketball Women's National Team opened its six-day training camp on September 30th in Washington, D.C. The 2009 USA National Team's fall training camp roster lists 19 athletes, including six Olympic gold medalists and five members of the 2009-12 USA Basketball Women's National Team, will be attending the
training camp.

Because of an injury to her right eye, Connecticut Sun point guard Lindsay Whalen will be forced to miss the USA Basketball Women’s National Team training camp, scheduled to run from Sept. 30th to Oct. 5th at American University in Washington, D.C.

Since joining the Connecticut Sun on July 2nd, Anete Jekabsone-Zogota has made a gradual adjustment in her first year of WNBA competition. An established star in her native Latvia, the 25-year-old guard has begun to display the shooting, passing and ball-handling skills that have impressed so many European fans.

In March of 2009, Sun equipment manager and travel coordinator Abby Gordon traveled to Prague, Czech Republic to visit Sun point guard Lindsay Whalen. The Connecticut Sun is inviting Connecticut students in grades 4-8 to participate in the Inaugural Women in Sports Essay Contest in honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD). All Connecticut students that are interested in participating in the project may submit a one-page essay answering the question:
Who is your favorite female athlete and why? All essays must be received by the Connecticut Sun front office by Friday, April 10th. Sun players, along with members of the organization, will judge the essays.

The game will be nationally televised on ABC on Sat., July 25, at 3:30 p.m. ET. She Shoots . . . She Scores! Women’s Basketball in Connecticut. Opening January 27, 2009 and running until January 2, 2010, the exhibit will highlight the history of Connecticut’s favorite sport. The 2008 WNBA season ended unexpectedly for the Connecticut Sun on September 22nd at Mohegan Sun Arena, where the New York Liberty pulled off a 66-62 victory in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The following day, Sun players packed up and began heading off in different directions, preparing for the offseason. Like most players in the league, Sun guard Lindsay Whalen will be playing overseas this winter, returning to Prague for her second season with USK Blex Praha.
