Coaches Added to Sun Clinic
Michigan State assistant women’s basketball coach Al Brown and Norwich Free Academy girls’ basketball coach Bill Scarlata will be on hand for the clinic, which will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A three-year letter-winner on the Purdue men’s basketball team, Brown has coached men’s basketball at Purdue, Ball State, Western Michigan, Minnesota and Tennessee while also serving as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Michigan State, South Carolina, Cleveland State, Wisconsin and Tennessee. He was the head coach of the Ball State men’s team from 1982-87.
Scarlata is one of the most successful coaches in Connecticut High School girls’ basketball history, building the Wildcats into a state powerhouse. In 14 seasons as the head coach at NFA, Scarlata has compiled a 326-39 record highlighted by five CIAC Class LL state championships, 10 ECC Tournament championships and 13 regular season ECC titles. NFA has appeared in a total of seven CIAC Class LL title games, and has had separate winning streaks of 58 and 53 games. Seventeen of Scarlata’s former players have gone on to play college basketball.
