Ask The Sun Week 5

Briana from Owings Mills, MD writes:
Just curious, is the WNBA having any plans for a 6th man award? Asjha Jones definitely deserves it! Go Sun!!!

I agree that Asjha has done an outstanding job and should be considered for an award of that type if it existed. As far as I know...there are no plans for an award of this type in the future. Currently, the league has the MIP award (Most Improved Player) of which Wendy Palmer Daniel won last year.

What happened to Candice Futrell? Not much was stated about why she is no longer playing in the WNBA. If you happen to stay in touch let her know she and Debbie are missed very much and hope all is well.

Actually, we had to waive Candace at the start of the season to make room under the salary cap. Candace tore ligaments in her last week overseas before returning to play for the Sun. The injury required 3 to 5 months of rehab. We speak with her often and expect her in traing camp next year.

Not a question....just a "kudos" at this time!!! Like the others, I used to travel to New York until the Sun got a team. I am also a season ticket holder (upper 24!!) and I also travel 2.5 hours to watch a game. Please let the girls know that we are here for them!!! When you play 3 times in one week...we are here!! We love the intensity and effort that they put forth on EVERY game which is unmatched by any other!! We may not get the media hype of other teams but our record shines through!!! GO SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the kind words! But a quick counter - I think we get a ton of media exposure in our market...the media has been very kind....what is missing is more loyal fans like yourself to attach themselves to the team and commit time to us....if you think it is worth a 2.5 hour drive maybe others who are much closer will give it a try.....the team is doing their part....thanks for your support!

Chris, I am a new fan of the WNBA. Lindsay Whalen could take all the credit for making me one. However, since I live in New York, I don't see how I could watch Lindsay play unless I travel to the Mohegan Arena or into MSG when the Sun visits the Liberty. Any chance for more TV coverage in the future? Any recomondations for now, to see Lindsay play? Thanks! -Bill

TV is what it is....an expensive proposition to cover all our games. We will have been on TV about 12 times - local and national - when the regular season is done. With much luck, we will go deep into the playoffs which will provide even greater opportunity to watch Lindsay and the Sun. However, if you can paint good mental pictures in your head, every one of our games is broadcast LIVE over the web...and it is FREE too. So check us out!

Thanks to friends of ours, myself and two of my children got to see the Sun play last night...I don't have a question, but I just wanted to say that this was our first game ever to see live and we absolutely loved it!!! I am hooked now and so is my 7 year old daughter!!! It is was such an inspiration to see those girls play and now my daughter wants to play with the Sun "when she gets taller"!! Thanks for an awesome time and we will be back again!!

We feel that the best way of introducing new fans is by coming to a game. You can hear about it, watch on TV or listen on the radio but nothing beats being in the arena. Come again and bring a friend! And, how tall is your daughter now? We can always use some good rebounders!
