Ask The Sun Week 1

Sun General Manager, Chris Sienko, answers questions from the fans:

Joe from Mitchell, SD asks:
Will Megan Mahoney be able to play for the Sun next season?

Megan Mahoney should be ok by training camp next year. She suffered the same injury Nykesha Sales suffered her senior year at UConn. Based on Keesh's success, we are hopeful Megan will have the same positive results and be ready to play for the Sun next year.

Sarah from Westport, CT asks:
Last season when the Sun made it to the finals, do you think if the Sun hadn’t attempted the three pointer in the second game and made a regular shot, that they could have won in overtime and right now be the defending champions?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but it does not change what has happened. Our philosophy is to play to win - not tie. Overtime does not guarantee winning either. I think our team took a lot of positives from that loss, and it has made them a stronger team this year.

Steve from Portland, CT asks:
I was at the All-Star game last Saturday ( I had a blast by the way). It was difficult to find Sun merchandise to buy throughout the arena and the casino. Also, I never see any Sun merchandise in Bob’s or other retail outlets. Any plans to get Sun shirts, hats, etc. in those places? I think it would help in marketing the team. Thanks!

Merchandise - ahhh yes! During the All-Star game, the WNBA controls the venue and what is sold, as well as the shops on property during the week of the game. If you come back again, you will see our merchandise around property and in the arena. We are working on different alliances to have merchandise at different retail locations around the state...hopefully that will be accomplished before the start of next season.

Jeff from Waterbury, CT asks:
Mr. Sienko, I am a first grade teacher in Danbury, CT. My students are big Sun fans and I report to them after every game. How can I get the CT Sun organization involved in a pen pal project with my budding young writers?

You can reach out to our Community Relations Manager, Tina James, care of the website. With the players here for a short season, and during summer, it may be difficult, but it is worth investigating!

Shawanda from Boston, MA asks:
Where can I send Sun players fan mail?

You can send the players fan mail to our address as follows: Players Name, c/o Connecticut Sun, 1 Mohegan Sun Boulevard, Uncasville, CT 06382.

Nancy from East Lyme, CT asks:
How come you can’t buy any Taj merchandise?

Taj jerseys are coming...keep on checking at the merchandise stands!

Kim from Wallingford, CT asks:
Chris, I have been a season ticket holder since the first season, and I was very pleased when it was announced that the 2005 All-Star game would be here in CT. I thought the Mohegan Sun did a wonderful job hosting the event and I’m sure you’re very proud of the job your staff did. My questions to you are what do you feel the Mohegan Sun did very well at and what do you think could be improved if (fingers crossed) the Sun host it again in the future years.

On another note, I remember when it was announced that Mohegan would have a new WNBA franchise people voiced their concerns about bringing their children around a gambling establishment. That was sooo long ago and I think you guys have done a tremendous job with advertising and such to overcome CT’s families concerns. I had faith in the fact that your organization would prove the public wrong and it has definitely become a family atmosphere sporting event!!

I look forward to many more years as a devoted season ticket holder.

Thank you for the kind words about the All Star game and the way that the Sun have reached out to quell any naysayers about our location or the property in general. I am very proud of my staff as well as that of all the folks at Mohegan Sun who made the All Star game a success. Many things worked great, and most improvements would be behind-the-scenes things which the fans would never see. Nothing is flawless and everything can be improved. Our objective with our own games, or a high-profile event such as the All Star game, is to make it better each time and so far, I have to give lots and lots of kudos to my staff. They are truly the best in the WNBA!

Edward from North Providence, RI asks:
Why doesn’t the public address announcer ever give scores of other WNBA games that are in progress like in other WNBA arenas that I’ve been to?

Great idea! Currently we post the previous days scores, current standings and scoring leaders, etc. during the the pre-game in the arena. I will look into getting other in-game scores out to the masses. Thanks!

The Sun would like to thank you for all of your questions this week. Check back next week to see more questions answered by Chris Sienko.
