Contracts vary from player to player based on when they where drafted, or when we acquired them. Some of the players who are signed beyond this year include Margo, Katie, Brooke, Taj, Lindsay and Jessica. Others who are not signed currently, we hope to re-sign in the off season.
Denise from Groton, CT asks
My daughter and I are big Sun Fans and we enjoy the games so much. She wants to know how can she participate in the time out contests. The CT Sun attended her high school basketball team game and she got her picture taken with Jessica Brungo at Fitch Senior High School, it just thrilled her so, she aspires one day to be in the WBNA and hopefully for the SUN.
Time-out participation is random. Our staff is out looking for contestants prior to the start of the game. Who knows, your daughter could be next! I wish her well in her quest to become a professional basketball player!
Emily from Minneapolis, MN asks:
I just started watching basketball when Lindsay Whalen played for the gophers and i followed her to CT. My question is- At the game against Detroit, it said Lindsay committed a flagrant foul on Nolan. What is the difference between a Flagrant foul and just a regular personal foul? - Thanks!
The difference between a 'personal foul' and a 'flagrant foul' is if the person who fouls the other did so with the intent of hurting the other or it was interpreted to be an unnecessary foul. Two flagrant fouls by an individual in a game will result in ejection. For the record, the league is reviewing that call on Lindsay as game tapes show it was not as interpreted (i.e. Lindsay is innocent!).
Katy from Springfield, MA asks:
I am a season ticket holder, and during school I always tell my teachers and classmates about the sun and the players they love it.
During the school year is there a program where Connecticut Sun could come tell about basketball and what inspired them (etc.)
The sun players - as well as staff - are often out in the schools during the off-season. Players are harder to get into the classroom as most reside outside of Connecticut, and most play overseas during our off season. Angie from Revere, MA asks:
As a huge women's basketball fan living in Boston, since there are no plans for WNBA expansion to Boston, are there any plans for the Sun to play exhibition games in Boston?
At this time, there are no plans for a game in the Boston market. We did play in Bridgeport, Connecticut this year (preseason), and have discussed going to other states. But for now, our focus is on building our local fan base before trying to reach the masses (but, if you can get the Red Sox to play down here in Uncasville, I will get a game up to Boston - you have my word!).
Ron from New London, CT asks:
Mr. Sienko, thanks for all your efforts to provide a great entertainment value to the area. It seems like it's hard for the fans to get to know the players. Jamie Carey's blog is a great start. Any chance of having a fan appreciation meet and greet on the court following the last home game of the season? The now-defunct Mohegan Sun Wolves of AFL2 allowed fans on the field after home games and allowed interaction with the players. It was a great chance for the kids to be involved with the people who are the game. Thanks again and good luck in the playoffs!
I like your idea, but it is very hard to facilitate. With no disrespect to the wolves ( I know their GM very well and the team is now in New Hampshire) they did not have the large number of fans that we have. In addition, most times we are pulling up the floor immediately after the game to prepare for another arena event. Blog's and other on-line information is easy, and we do create special events for our season ticket holders with the players. To create events for the masses is a difficult proposition. Thanks for your support and I will 'knock on wood' about the playoffs!
Lea from New Hartford, CT asks:
I was wondering how people are chosen to receive basketballs from the players at the beginning of the game? I am interested in nominating someone who deserves to be recognized. How can I do so? Thank you for taking the tiem to read my question. Thanks, Lea.
I get a lot of questions about this topic. We have criteria for the ball exchange, most of those being a part of a large group. However, we will have season ticket holders honored, and others (such as breast cancer survivors), and even random folks from the audience. As for your nomination, we do honor people with our 'Cascade Dish and Assist' community assist winners. For more information on that, please go to this link: www.wnba.com/sun/community/
Karen from Bozrah, CT asks:
Thank you for bringing WNBA basketball to our area. We are very lucky to have the team. Everyone is so professional & accommodating from the players, the coaches, and the staff.
My daughters went to Coach T's camp last summer, any chance of having a 1 day clinic for kids this year or in the future?
Also, my family will be in DC when the Sun play the Mystics on Aug. 11th. How can we go about purchasing tickets? Thank you.
Thank you for the kind words about the team and staff. We take pride in representing the WNBA in new England. I am just as excited that our fans will travel to support us. If you are looking for tickets, the best way is to go online to http://www.wnba.com/schedules/ and click on the TIX icon for the game you wish to see. Other than that, I suggest calling the box office at the MCI center.
Kim from Tolland, CT asks:
STH and don't miss a game. Good job to Coach T. My question is a fairly simple one. What type of gum does K.T. chew? It never seems to get stale. She should get an endorsement contract with them! Go Sun!
Funny question...but I have no idea. I think the gum responsibilities with our strength and conditioning coach, Lisa Ciaravella. If you ever notice when she walks onto the court just before tip-off, she has a big tub of gum with her. On a side note, I have been known to take a few pieces myself, but they never last that long. Perhaps she saves the good stuff for the players...I will have to look into this situation!
Evie from Richfield, MN asks:
I became a fan of the Sun when Lindsay Whalen joined the team and now admire the whole team for their skills unselfishness and work ethic. It was very disappointing that Lindsay did not get of the all=star team. How did her teammates feel about this oversight and the fact that Detroit got 4 all-stars and the Sun only 2?
Well, the All-Star game is past and we all believe that Lindsay should have been on the team. In my opinion, Katie Douglas deserved a shot too. It’s tough when other teams send more players, but the reality is, it is an exhibition game. The real prize comes at the end of the season, and if Lindsay and all her teammates are there to collect, the All-Star snub will be a distant bump in the road!
