How is your team doing?
Ok, about my team… Well, we are third in the Russian league right now. If you don't know, Russia has one of the tougher leagues these days. Many of the top players are either playing or have played in this league. If you look at our roster you will understand what I mean. But unfortunately we have suffered some injuries.
How is it playing with Sandrine Gruda, how will she
fit in with the Sun?
Our new young player is a very good player..and for me to say that, it has to be true because I'm very stingy with my compliments. I know that some people want to call her “Gruda” but I already know what she will say, "I have a first name.". So I will let all of you know before she arrives that she does actually like her first name and wants you to use it. Another thing is that she is actually from the Caribbean. Yes, I know she plays for the French national team but please don't call her French. She will fit in with our up-tempo style of play because she can run the floor. She has those young legs. She is agile enough to play both the 4 and 5 positions. Having versatile players gives us more possible lines to put on the floor.
How's the food out there? Do you have any favorites?
Ok so, on my team more than half of the players are not Russian. Out of all of the foreigners, I have been in Russia the longest so I am like the honorary Russian. I am used to the food and just about everything actually. I might not be the best person to ask about the food because I like most of it. As long as it’s simple and nothing strange I am good. I do stay away from the tongue they serve every lunch. I am a fan of the Russian salad which can be compared to our potato salad.
Is there anything in particular that you miss that you can't find in Russia?
This being my fourth year in Russia I pretty much know what I can and cannot find here. So when I come I usually have a bag that is just for supplies. It is imperative that I bring my peanut butter. The last few years I have come across some in a market or two but it doesn't look quite like Jiffy.
What is the current temperature? And how do you feel about that?
Again, I might not be the best person to ask about the weather here. I say that because I played in Siberia for two years and one of them was during a record setting winter. Here in Ekaterinburg it hasn't been too bad at all. There hasn't been much snow and the sun is actually shining right now. The fact that it’s sunny right now is a big deal because in winter its normally cold and dreary.
How well do you speak Russian?
Yes, I know I have been in Russia for awhile now but it’s a very difficult language. Well that's my excuse for not being able to speak it. I was kind of learning until this year. Now everyone speaks English and our Coach is French. Yeah, it is a very interesting atmosphere around here.
Are you looking forward to having a new team in the Eastern Conference(Atlanta Dream)?
I have been trying to move to the ATL since high school so I think it’s a great addition. It is a great city and I'm mad we only go once in the regular season. That's so not fair, btw.
Do you watch local TV or movies out there? How are they?
I have Satellite television here. That sounds great doesn't it? Well, it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be. Out of all the channels less than 10 are in English. Out of those 10, 3 or 4 are cartoon channels. That would be fine if I was into cartoons. The only channel that has some movies is the Hallmark channel. I can sit around and watch it all day. I think I have been in this country way too long.
