2005 Training Camp Invitees

A number of Sun hopefuls were invited to the 2005 training camp during the preseason. Here is a quick look at who these women are:

Maria Conlon
This 5-9 guard was a steady backcourt player for UConn, where she won three National Championships (2002, 2003 and 2004). During the past year, Maria was a volunteer student coach for the Huskies while she worked to complete her degree.

Anna Montañana
Six-foot-3 Montañana from George Washington University, finished third in the Atlantic 10 in scoring average in 2004-05 at 16.7 points per game. She also contributed 6.8 rebounds per outing on her way to earning all-conference first-team honors for the second straight season. Montañana capped the year by earning WBCA/Kodak Region I All-America honors and being selected as a WBCA/Kodak Honorable Mention All-American.

Laura Summerton
Summerton, 21, is a 6-2 center who has played with the Adelaide Quit Lightning of the Women’s National Basketball League of Australia. She has been named the team’s Most Valuable Player in each of the last three seasons. Last season, Summerton ranked in the top three on the team in every statistical category, leading the team in blocks and points. She also led the league in field goal percentage, shooting 53.8 percent from the field. Summerton was on the Australian team which took home the silver medal at the 2004 Olympics.

Jamie Carey
Carey, a 5-6 guard from University of Texas, was a player for Stanford University before transferring in her junior season. Jamie was a finalist for the State Farm Wade Trophy and Naismith Award as National Player of the Year and was a recipient of the 2004 Jimmy V Foundation “Comeback Award”, given to a collegiate basketball player who triumphs over adversity. She was also named NCAA West Regional All-Tournament Team. Carey was drafted by the Phoenix Mercury at 31st overall in the 2005 WNBA draft.
