Keeping Up With Jones - Volume II
Throughout the 2010 season, Sun forward Asjha Jones will be updating fans on what's going on with the team, herself and a variety of other topics. Below is her second installment. Read her first entry HERE
Hello again! All right, so we are at the point of training camp where things are starting to shape up. Our team has been practicing extremely hard. Even though we have made a few cuts, I would like to say that the players who were waived were great women and they worked their tails off. I wish them luck in their futures.
We also hosted a BBQ where we introduced this year’s team to the season ticket holders and were able to mingle with of our fans. The BBQ was indoors, so it was a very interesting experience. It was really cool because the fans got a chance to actually meet and get to know us a little bit. It needed to happen because we have made so many changes. Throughout the entire room you could just feel the energy and excitement about the season. It was a great way to kick the season off.
Since then, we have played our first exhibition game against Atlanta. It was good for the team to be on the court against someone other than ourselves. I had a pretty good view from the bench.
Yup, still not playing.
We started kind of shaky but we finally got it together. We stopped turning the ball over and settled into our sets and the style of defense we want to play. The team is still forming its identity and trying to put all of these new pieces together. All in all I would say it was pretty good for the first time out of the gates. That being said we definitely have a lot of work to do but we have tons of potential.
After all of the "talking" about the possibilities, it was exciting to get an actual glimpse of them.
Wednesday night we had an open practice at St Joe's, giving fans another opportunity to see us practice and then scrimmage against each other. The day started with a morning practice, and then we went home for a few hours before returning to Mohegan Sun. That's fine. It’s training camp, so that wasn't the first day we had two practices. We have been doing this for the last few years. Let me tell you that those scrimmages are HARD.The hard part is the scrimmage with one sub per team. You play almost an entire game like that. Whew, talk about a good workout!
As for me, I am slowly but surely getting closer to getting back out there. I am still trying to build up the strength and endurance of my Achilles. It is something that just takes time. There is no definitive timeline, so please continue to bear with me.
