Injury Will Sideline McCray For 2013 Season

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (April 9, 2013) – The Connecticut Sun announced today that Danielle McCray is expected to miss the entire 2013 season with a complete tear of her Achilles tendon.

She will need surgery to repair the injury, and will undergo between five and six months of rehabilitation.

“It is very disappointing that Danielle has suffered another significant injury that will require surgery,” Sun coach Anne Donovan said. “She was having a great season in Italy, and I was very much looking forward to her return to the Sun. I am confident that Danielle is a tough player who will fight through and come back even stronger.”

McCray averaged 12.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in FIBA Euroleague play for Familia Schio of Italy before the injury. With Connecticut in 2012, McCray appeared in 28 games with eight starts, averaging 4.8 points with 20 made threes.

Originally drafted by the Sun out of Kansas with the 7th overall pick in 2010, McCray sat out that WNBA season recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered during her senior year. She came back in 2011, appearing in 34 games with 23 starts while averaging 5.9 points per game for the Sun.
